Hi all! I'm not normally one to do this, but I need your help! I am running a flash sale through the weekend (starts now through Sunday at midnight) to help with Meira's medical costs. She does have insurance, but I have to pre-pay for everything (currently have paid just over $8,000) and wait to see if they will reimburse me (she has a pre-existing condition of seasonal allergies and like they to try and say everything is that) and there are also costs not covered by insurance. The pre-payment for the current treatments has depleted my savings and while I do have care credit, I am still paying off Soren's non-covered procedures from his back (with really lovely high interest).

Meira presented on Wednesday with an ear infection (she has never had one before so not normal for her), brought her to the vet and got medication. Thursday morning I noticed she had inflammation in her mouth along with petechiae on her gums. Back to the vet where they pulled lots of samples for tests. This morning her CBC/Chem came back with extremely low platelets (thrombocytopenia) and it was recommended I bring her to the ER. So off to CCVS we went and Meira has been there since this morning (and will most likely be there for several days) where they are running more tests to try and figure out what is going causing her thrombocytopenia. Hopefully we get some answers soon, but she may need more tests and treatments and I of course want to be able to provide whatever she needs.

Some of the best things you can teach and do for your dog or puppy don’t always make for fun, flashy social media reels.

In today’s world, that’s problematic, as those of us who are hired to help with anxious dogs every single day are seeing a huge trend in behavior problems that are rooted from habits of well-meaning dog owners that constantly trying to occupy their dogs with affection, treat and toy puzzles, and endless attention.

We love our dogs (and yours, too!) — this isn’t about not loving dogs or providing for them.

In fact…quite the contrary.

One of the most helpful tips that we share with new puppy owners is something so simple, that many skim past implementing it regularly:

The Art of ✨Self-Regulation✨

One way we like to prevent and help address anxiety in young dogs, is teaching them to accept being safely tethered in your presence. This helps build security in their ability to be alone, instead of relying on social interaction for comfort.

Are you working from home and able to spend all day with your new puppy? Tether them to a large piece of furniture across the room for you for some mandated self-soothing!

Ignoring your adorable dog or new puppy is hard.
We really get that.

But I promise you, an ounce of prevention by doing this for a few hours a day will help save you from having a dog who suffers from lifelong stress and separation anxiety. Just be sure to keep in mind some safety factors, such as not leaving them completely unattended while tethered! I like to also provide a safe chew item for them to redirect their energy into.

This young guy is River, a Drentsche Patrijshond puppy! Also known as a “Drent”, these dogs are known for being an active, intelligent, & versatile breed.

River is a lovely puppy who has a really fun life ahead of him with a dedicated family!

The simple joy of a Husky in fresh snow 😍

Like many Spitz breeds, Husky mix Scout has an independent spirit. He does not like the idea of leashes, crates, or really…any confinement involving the indoors!

Scout has bounced around shelters and homes until he recently landed with a couple who understands and appreciates his rugged nature.

Together with Scout’s new family, we are working to teach Scout that he can still enjoy the great outdoors and plenty of freedom, while accepting the life of living cohesively with people in modern society.

We won’t be attempting to change who he is.
No good dog training ever should.

Learning the necessary skills to suit your dog and lifestyle other is what it’s all about. 🤝
