So many people giving up on their cats lately, just seems to be happening more and more every day.. So here’s my thoughts, because honestly, my heart hurts for these poor babies..
If you get a cat, or any other pet, be prepared to keep it until one or the other of you passes away, or if for some reason, one is getting to an older age and has to have others take care of you, make sure your cat will be taken care of too.. You are their family from the second you take them in and sign those adoption papers..
Moving? Make sure you find a place that allows pets, and that you have the extra money saved up for pet deposits if needed, because there’s no excuse as to why you can’t take them with you..
Moving out of the country? Again, make sure you’re financially prepared for that and make sure they also have all they need to make that trip with you.. Because again, you took that responsibility on when you adopted them..
Developing allergies? There’s solutions for that too.. Meds, allergy shots, pet food that helps with allergens on pets, etc.. I’ve had allergies to cats for years, but yet, we have 4 cats of our own that we rescued and I’m also a cat foster.. I deal with it, because it’s not their fault I have allergies..
Having a baby? Nope, no excuse for that either.. introduce them early on, let them grow up together-I promise you, it’ll be the best decision you ever made..
Working a lot of hours at work? I can guarantee you they would rather be home waiting on you, rather than thrown into a new home at 8, or 12 years old.. They feel what we do-don’t want them alone, get them a sibling..
These are just a few of the “excuses” we see daily on here, and also in rescue.. PLEASE DO NOT get a cat or any other pet unless you know for sure that y’all will live the rest of your lives together!!
There are too many being tossed away because of one of these excuses!! Figure it all out before you even make that decision to adopt or rescue a pet, because I promise you, a pet is the ONLY one who will look at you with love in their eyes every single day! They’re the only ones who would never judge you! They’re always there for you, even when you don’t make time for them!
Just my 2 cents, and to everyone who decided to never give up on their babies, no matter the circumstances, THANK YOU!! Your pet will thank you too! 🐾♥️
