Small breed dogs — including dachshunds and French bulldogs — have a high risk of developing a herniated disc in their middle back, which can lead to partial or complete paralysis in the hindlegs. Until recently, the only treatment for dogs that do not respond to rest and therapy has been a costly decompressive surgery that involves removing the herniated disc.

Now, thanks to a new treatment developed by Texas A&M University professor Dr. Nick Jeffery, more dog owners will be able to afford treatment for herniated discs, which affects hundreds of thousands of dogs in the United States alone.

Nueces, now RIVER, Goes Home with his furever family!! River got to stay with us until his family had completed their big summer plans, and now its home for good! This boy has been INCREDIBLE -- you could not ask for a better boy. Not one accident in the house, and responds well to correction and direction. We will miss you River!!

Nueces, now RIVER, Goes Home with his furever family!! River got to stay with us until his family had completed their big summer plans, and now it's home for good! 6/28/25 Nueces River has a new family! Thank you Burelisons! Nueces (maybe soon to be "River") will stay on with us for two more weeks while his new family hosts family from out of town, so in the meantime, he continues to be loved her with us, growing and doing Puppy Kindergarten!
