ONE YEAR AT VALIANT EQUESTRIAN LLC! 🧡

One whole year of calling this farm home. It’s hard to believe how much has happened in just 365 days, and even harder to put into words what this past year has meant to us.

I love the quote “Bite off more than you can chew and then learn how to chew it.” That’s how I felt when we first moved in; A girl with a huge dream, and little bit of imposter syndrome, thinking Should I really do this??

We jumped in with big dreams, a lot of determination, and maybe a little bit of craziness. We survived a wild first winter that definitely tested us in more ways than one, made it to horse shows throughout the spring, got our very own horse trailer (!!!) and put some serious miles on it traveling all over. We hosted our very first summer camp here, which was more successful than we ever could have imagined, and welcomed so many wonderful horses and their owners to the farm. Along the way, we’ve met countless new faces, built relationships, and made memories that we’ll carry with us for a long time.

It hasn't all been easy. There have been long days, late nights, unexpected challenges, and plenty of moments where we had to figure things out as we went. But looking around at everything, this place has me thinking of how great it could be in 5 years.

The biggest part of this year has been the people.
Every boarder, lesson student, camper, horse owner, friend, family member, and person who has supported us in any way has played a part in making this dream a reality. Whether you've been here since day one or just recently became part of our farm family, please know how much it means to us. We truly could not do this without you.

This farm is so much more than just a business to me. It's something I’ve poured my heart into, and watching it grow into a place where people and horses can learn, grow, and feel at home has been the most rewarding part of it all.

One year down, so many lessons learned, and so much more to look forward to. We're proud of how far we've come, grateful for everyone who's been along for the ride, and excited to see what the next year brings.

Here's to one year of Valiant Equestrian LLC at our farm, and to everyone who helped make it what it is today. 🤍🐴

Please share your pics in the comments would love to see them all 🧡

So excited to introduce Charlie’s Angel “Charlie”❤️

This gorgeous registered APHA mare is no stranger to the arena, with a background in barrel racing and gymkhana, trail and much more! We’re beyond excited to add her to our herd and can’t wait to make some memories with her

Heres to a future of fast turns, and plenty of adventures with this pretty girl 🤍

5 Things As a Horse Trainer I Will NOT Apologize For.

1. Putting the horse first.
Your goals, your timeline, and your ribbons will never be more important than the horse standing in front of me.

2. Telling you what you need to hear, not necessarily what you want to hear.
You pay me for my knowledge, experience, and professional opinion. Sometimes that means having uncomfortable conversations.

3. Expecting accountability.
Progress requires effort outside of your weekly lesson. You cannot expect extraordinary results from ordinary commitment.

4. Protecting my time.
My time, just like yours, has value. Boundaries, schedules, and policies aren’t personal. They’re part of running a professional business.

5. Refusing to rush the process.
Good horses aren’t made overnight. Neither are good riders. There are no shortcuts around patience, consistency, correct training, and putting in the work.

🐾 **A Little Help for Our Barn Cat, Luna 💔

Valiant Equestrian LLC families,

We have some heartbreaking news to share about our sweet girl, Luna. I didn’t want to alarm anyone, but she had been missing for the last week or so, and we were worried sick about her, not knowing where she was or if she was okay.

Last night we were hanging out in the barn around 11:00pm doing our night check of the horses, when we heard her trademark “mewoooow” we were so relieved and happy when we saw her glowing eyes come closer, but our relief quickly turned to heartbreak when we saw that she was very skinny, and was limping on a severely injured foot. She was crying in pain, and I rushed her straight to the emergency vet.

Luna underwent tests and imaging, and we were told that her foot has numerous deep puncture wounds and abrasions. The vet explained that her injuries are serious enough that if the infection gets in her joint she may need amputation or to be PTS. Or we can try an aggressive course of antibiotics and wound care and hope it heals cleanly, to give her the best chance at saving her foot. We simply aren't ready to give up on her, so we're going to fight for our girl and give her every chance we can ❤️

Our plan is to give Luna extensive antibiotics, carefully clean and dress her wounds, and keep her comfortable with pain medication. She will need to stay confined in our barn bathroom so she can rest, heal, and avoid running around while her foot recovers. It's going to take a lot of care, medication, and time. She’s a tough girl to make it all the way home in the condition she was in, I bet she was so scared looking for home💔

Her emergency vet visit, and aftercare is totaling up quickly. and we still have many prescriptions and ongoing care expenses ahead of us. This has been an unexpected and very emotional expense, but Luna is part of our barn family, and we want to give her every possible chance to recover.

If you are able and would like to help, we have started the **“Save Luna’s foot Fund” 🐾💗** to help cover her veterinary bills, medications, bandages, and continued treatment. Any contribution would mean so much to us. Please know that there is absolutely no pressure to donate; sharing this message and keeping Luna in your thoughts means a great deal, too.

We are so incredibly grateful that our sweet girl found her way home. We don't know what she went through during that missing week, but we know she is safe now, with a full belly, and getting the care she desperately needs.

Thank you for caring about Luna and for being part of a community that shows compassion for the animals who are part of our lives. ❤️🐈

With Love,
Valerie and Luna ❤️

🐴 The $300 Horse Boarding Problem

If you own or are looking to own a horse, this post might make you uncomfortable — but it needs to be said.

As someone who has spent years feeding horses before sunrise and cleaning stalls long after dark, I’ve watched this pattern happen over and over again.

You see the ads everywhere.

“Full care board – $300/month.”

Hay 24/7. Grain included. All the amenities.

And you wonder…

How are they doing it so cheap?

Because the truth is — horses aren’t cheap to care for.

Even if someone grows their own hay there are still costs:

fuel, equipment, repairs, labor, land, and time.

So when board is that cheap, something usually gets cut.

Maybe it’s feed.

Maybe it’s stall cleaning.

Maybe turnout quietly disappears.

Maybe water buckets only get filled once a day.

It doesn’t happen overnight.

It happens slowly… until one day someone sees your horse and says:

“Wow… he looks thin.”

You go home, look at old photos, and realize they’re right.

So you move your horse to a higher-end barn.

Now board is $700… $800… sometimes $1,000+ a month.

Your horse looks great again — but now you’re working so many hours just to afford it that you barely get to see them.

And that’s when people start leaving the horse world completely.

But there’s a third option that often gets overlooked.

Small private barns.

Not the mega barns.

Not the ultra-cheap barns.

The quiet, middle-of-the-road places where the owner does the work themselves because they can’t afford employees.

The places where your horse isn’t just a stall number.

Where feed is adjusted individually.

Where someone notices if your horse doesn’t finish dinner.

Where care is personal because the barn is small enough to truly manage.

These barns often sit half empty because they’re not flashy and they’re not the cheapest.

But many of them offer the best balance of care, affordability, and peace of mind in the horse world.

Sometimes the best place for your horse isn’t the cheapest or the fanciest.

Sometimes it’s the place where you can walk out to the pasture after a long day, breathe, and simply watch your horse be a horse.

❤️

And if you’re lucky enough to find one of those small barns that truly cares, hold onto it.

Those places are usually run by people who love horses more than profit, who do the work themselves every day, and who treat every horse like part of their own herd.

Small barns are the heart of the horse world.

A little late, but it's time to officially welcome our newest pony to the farm... Nemo! 🐴💙

Nemo is a 5-year-old Quarter Horse pony who has been with us for a few weeks now, and he has quickly fit right into our herd!! We're happy to say he's adjusted wonderfully and has already made plenty of friends—both two and four-legged! ❤️

We can't wait to watch Nemo continue to grow, meet more of our riders, and make his debut at future shows. We know he's going to have a bright future here, and we're so excited for everyone to get to know him!

Welcome to the family, Nemo! 🐠✨
