An Update We Wish We Didn’t Have to Share💔
We shared Bellatrix and Scampi’s story with you, how a grieving mama cat who lost her babies opened her heart to a tiny, orphaned kitten who needed love. We’ve been holding off on this post because it’s just so hard to write… but we owe it to you, and to Scampi, to share the truth, even when it hurts.
Sweet Scampi, the tiny orphaned kitten, has unfortunately passed away.
There were no warning signs. He was eating, growing, and purring. But despite all the love, care, and expert support he received, he slipped away suddenly, a heartbreaking condition known as Fading Kitten Syndrome.
Fading Kitten Syndrome is a tragic and all-too-common reality in the shelter world. It affects neonatal kittens, often without warning. Despite our best efforts, sometimes their tiny bodies just can’t keep up. It’s a reminder of how fragile these little lives truly are.
Our hearts are heavy, especially for Bellatrix.
She cried. She curled up quietly again. But she’s not alone. Her incredible foster has been by her side through every moment, offering her comfort and love. To keep her spirits high, Bellatrix has slowly been introduced to her foster’s resident cats, and she’s starting to seek connection again.
We are endlessly grateful to Bellatrix’s foster for giving both her and Scampi a loving, peaceful place to be together. The impact you’ve had on their lives is immeasurable.
This sweet girl has known more loss than any cat ever should. But Bellatrix is strong. She’s gentle. She still has so much love to give. And we believe, with everything in us, that her happy ending is still out there.
