Back in January, Lliah and her ten tiny puppies arrived at our shelter from Corpus Christi Animal Care Services—hopeful, scared, and in need of help. What began as a litter of ten soon became six after a heartbreaking canine distemper outbreak claimed the lives of four sweet pups💔

Today, we celebrate the Survivor Six.🐾 Three of these brave pups have already been adopted and have tested negative, starting their happily ever afters. The other three continue their fight in our clinic, surrounded by care and hope as they await final clearance. And their incredible mom? Lliah is healthy, strong, and officially ready to find a family of her own!✨

Canine Distemper is a highly contagious and sometimes fatal viral disease that affects dogs, and unfortunately, it has impacted our area despite ongoing efforts to maintain a healthy & vaccinated community for the animals in the Coastal Bend. Signs of Distemper can include nasal discharge, coughing, lethargy and neurological signs. Please let this be your reminder to make sure your pets are up to date on all vaccines.
