Pupdate: Tony

We just received an update on newly adopted Tony:

“Tony is an amazing dog and enjoying life as the newest member of our family. He is fully bonded with all of us and enjoys being near his humans, relaxing outside, and going for his daily exercise, but going for a ride in the car seems to be his favorite activity. Thank you again for all that you do .”

Living the dream…have a fabulous life Tony!

Sometimes life changes in ways we never expect.

When Chowder’s owner, a single woman who loved him dearly, accepted a new job that required extensive travel, she made the difficult and selfless decision to surrender him so he could have the time, attention, and companionship he deserved. It was clear from the moment he arrived that he had been deeply loved.

His fosters showered him with love, took him to his vet appointments, and made sure he felt like part of the family every step of the way. In fact, if they hadn't already had two dogs of their own, Chowder may never have left—he truly is that special.

And honestly, we weren’t surprised.

Chowder quickly stole the hearts of everyone he met. Whether he was following his people from room to room, making friends with other dogs, showing off his impeccable manners, or simply leaning in for affection, he had a way of making everyone feel loved. He is the kind of dog who makes a house feel more like home.

We received so many wonderful applications for Chowder, but in the end, he found his perfect match right within our rescue family. We are thrilled to announce that our very own volunteer and her husband adopted him!

The best part? Chowder—now Cooper—met his new brother Cody, and the two hit it off immediately. Within moments they were happily playing together, as if they had always known each other. It was one of those moments that makes you smile and know you've found exactly the right home.

Cooper’s new parents are true dog people through and through, and anyone who knows them knows how deeply they love and care for their dogs. Cooper could not have landed in a better home.

Today, Cooper is officially home. ❤️

Bodhi came to Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue after his family made the difficult decision to surrender him due to allergies in the home. They had loved him since he was a puppy and wanted to make sure he had the opportunity to find a home where he could continue to thrive.

When he arrived at his foster home, he was a bit of a hot mess — missing coat, struggling with obvious skin issues, insecure, shut down, and clearly overwhelmed after losing the only home he had ever known.

His fosters did what truly exceptional fosters do: they gave him time.

Through multiple vet visits, patience, gentle reassurance, and a calm home, they helped Bodhi slowly decompress and heal. When we talk about extraordinary fosters, they are at the very top of the list. They understood that Bodhi didn’t just need medical care — he needed to feel safe again. And once he did? His true golden personality finally started to shine through.

When it came time to choose Bodhi’s forever family, one couple stood out immediately. They had recently lost their beloved Golden Retriever before Thanksgiving, and their home felt far too quiet without a golden soul in it. In their application they wrote:

“We are calm, not chaotic people and would look forward to looking after Bodhi, making sure his medical needs are met and enjoying his companionship as part of our everyday existence. From his pictures we would want to remove the sad uncertainty we see there and provide him with the love we feel for a welcome family member who is an important part of our lives.”

During the meet & greet, Bodhi immediately approved walking from one to the other asking for pets. And when it was time for the official adoption picture, he decided to come up on the bench between the two of them and stared giving his new mom kisses. He was so happy - as if he knew this was his forever home!!!

Today, Bodhi is home — with a calm, loving retired couple who have all the time in the world to make sure he feels secure, cherished, and cared for. After all he has been through, we could not have imagined a more perfect ending for this sweet boy. ❤️
