🌟 Vet Receptionist Appreciation Week 🌟
This week, we’re celebrating the heart of our front desk — one of our incredible vet receptionists Destiny! 💕🐾 From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, she's the friendly face (and calming voice) making sure every visit runs smoothly.
Thank you Destiny for being the paws behind the paperwork, the smile behind the counter, and the soul that holds our clinic together.💙

Those foxtails, every Spring/Summer!

Spring is here! Here are some simple tips to help keep your pets healthy and safe!

1️⃣Be sure your pets are protected against parasites 🦠. As your pets are outdoors more they are more likely to come in contact with fleas, ticks and mosquitos. Make sure they are on parasite preventatives.

2️⃣Watch out for foxtails & Snakes like rattlesnakes 🐍 when outdoors (depending on where you live).

3️⃣Secure all window and door screens to prevent accidents. Cats often jump on windowsills to enjoy the breeze - be sure you have screens and that they are secure.

4️⃣Make sure your pet’s vaccines are up to date before they head off to the dog park or beach.

5️⃣Make sure all plants and flowers 💐 are pet safe before bringing them into the house. Check online to be sure you aren’t bringing in any poisonous plants. 🪴 Lilies are extremely dangerous. If you have cats keep these out of your house.

Enjoy the weather and have fun!

We are currently experiencing incidents of canine distemper virus (CDV) in our shelter. While we are taking every precaution to protect the animals in our care, this is an important reminder of how essential vaccines are to keeping your pets safe and preventing outbreaks in the community. If your dog isn’t up to date on their vaccines, please don’t wait! Vaccination is the most effective way to protect them from distemper and other preventable diseases. We offer low-cost vaccination appointments at sdhumane.org/vaccine.

During this time, we're also waiving reclaim fees to help lost pets get home faster and reduce their time in the shelter! (Please note: Other fees, such as licensing, relinquishment and spay/neuter fees, may still apply at the time of reclaim.)

If you’re facing the difficult decision to give up your pet, please consider rehoming before surrendering them to the shelter. We partner with Adopt-a-Pet and Home To Home, which allow you to choose your pet's adoptive family and place them directly in their new home! This eliminates the need for a shelter stay and protects their health and the well-being of other animals in our care. Learn more at sdhumane.org/rehome.

Thank you for helping us keep pets and our community safe!

Kevin came in for his appointment this morning and was the calmest, happiest boy—especially with his head in the treat jar! 🐾💛 We’re so grateful for Dr. Stone and our amazing team for always going the extra mile to make our patients feel safe, understood, and cared for. Thank you to Kevin’s mom, Rhonda, for the kind words and trust over the years. ”

How often should your cat 🐱 visit the veterinarian?

Kittens need several visits in their first year to receive all their vaccinations.

Adult cats should be seen once a year for their annual check-ups

Senior or special-needs cats should be seen twice a year or possibly more depending on their medical concerns.

And of course if your cat or kitten has any new medical issues (vomiting, not eating, diarrhea, etc) be sure to bring them into see their veterinarian right away.
