About Toby
Toby is a healthy, athletic Dalmatian with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He is an affectionate companion who wants to be wherever his people are—whether that’s going for a run, relaxing on the couch, or curling up under the blankets at bedtime. He is happiest when he has plenty of exercise, a predictable routine, and lots of time with his family.
Toby enjoys running, neighborhood walks, tug-of-war, chewing on durable bones, and sprinting around the yard chasing squirrels and birds. He loves riding in the car and is comfortable on multi-hour road trips. At home, he prefers sleeping beside (or on) his people rather than by himself and is an excellent cuddle buddy.
Training & Daily Life
Toby is house trained and crate trained, although he spends very little time in his crate because he is generally well behaved in the home. He knows basic obedience commands including sit, down, and stay and does well with routine and consistency.
He walks and runs well on leash using a harness. Like many enthusiastic Dalmatians, he can pull when he gets excited, but he is very manageable with proper equipment.
Toby is comfortable with baths and generally does well for nail trims. He currently lives with two cats and coexists well with them. If another dog is in the home, we would recommend a meet-and-greet beforehand to ensure everyone is a good fit.
Toby’s Ideal Home
Our highest priority is finding the home where Toby can be most successful. We believe he would thrive with:
An active owner or family committed to providing regular exercise and mental enrichment
An adult-only home or one without young children
Someone who values structure, consistency, and having a loyal companion by their side
A securely fenced yard is a bonus but is not required if his exercise needs are met
Toby has shown that he is uncomfortable around small children, particularly when resting or when his personal space is unexpectedly invaded. After careful consideration and conversations with our veterinarian, we believe he will be happiest and safest in a home without young children. This has been an incredibly difficult decision for our family, but our goal is to give Toby the opportunity to thrive in an environment that best fits his needs.
Transition
We are committed to finding the right match rather than the quickest placement. Toby will come with his belongings and equipment, and we are happy to work closely with his new family to help make the transition as smooth and successful as possible. We are also happy to answer questions, share his routine, and remain available during the adjustment period.
If you think Toby could be the right addition to your family, we’d love to hear from you.
