Team Member Friday! Hello! My name is Edyona Watkins. I have been working at the Franklinton Dog Stop for a year and a few months. I am currently attending CSCC’s Veterinary Technology program and have bigger plans of obtaining my doctorate of extotic animal medicine and opening my own Veterinary facility. Most of my pets live with my parents back home in the northern panhandle of west virginia which is 2 dogs (Gmork and Falkor), 4 shelter cats(Gandalf, Sauron, Baphomet and Lilith), and 2 snakes(Azazel and Alexi)!! In my very small studio apartment I house a Milk snake named Rengoku, a Ball python named Ralphie and a very old bearded dragon named Spyro. In my free time I love to try and spend it with animals, both during breaks at work or outside of work/school with my own animals and shelter animals!! I’m so happy to have been given this opportunity to work at the dog stop, gain valuable experience and spend time with your furry friends all day!! Thanks!

Meet our June dog of the month, Quincy! He is a 4 year old Basset Hound who loves to come and play at daycare. One of Quincy’s favorite activities is chasing the water from the hoses. As soon as he hears the water turn on, he quickly goes outside and gets ready to run. Quincy loves to play with his friends in daycare, his closest friends are puppies and other high energy dogs who he loves to wrestle with. You can often find Quincy hanging out with the handlers and asking for pets or out running the whole pack when he gets his zoomies. This handsome hound dog has so many quirks and has quickly become a staff favorite. When the rooms get quiet, Quincy likes to turn daycare into a choir class by being the first to initiate a howl and invite the other dogs to join in until half the pups are all singing with him. At the end of a fun day, this short-legged pup runs faster than we can with his long ears flying to greet his parents in the lobby! We love you, Quincy!

Understanding canine body language is essential for effective communication with your dog 🐶. Here are five simple tips:
1️⃣ Tail Position Matters – A wagging tail doesn’t always mean happiness! A high, stiff wag can indicate alertness or arousal, while a low, slow wag might show uncertainty or deference 🐕.
2️⃣ Ears Tell a Story – Forward ears suggest curiosity or excitement 😃, but pinned-back ears can signal fear, anxiety, or deference 😬.
3️⃣ Relaxed vs. Stiff Body – A loose, wiggly body generally means a happy, relaxed pup, while a stiff, tense posture may signal stress, aggression, or discomfort 🤗➡️😟.
4️⃣ Yawning and Lip Licking – These are common calming signals dogs use when they’re anxious or trying to diffuse tension 😴👅.

🦴 Frozen Kong or Lick Mat – Stuff a Kong with peanut butter or mashed banana, or spread a tasty treat on a lick mat and freeze it for a longer-lasting, soothing activity.
