Ask the L.V.M.T…….Why are IV catheters important for surgery patients?
Having an IV catheter placed before surgery has multiple benefits. For example: it allows us to administer fluid therapy during the procedure. Fluids help with hydration and to regulate the blood pressure during the anesthetic process.
It allows staff quick venous access in the case of a medical emergency before, during and after the procedure. This increases the chances of re-stabilization with a quick reaction time should an emergency occur.
Having IV catheters placed for surgical procedures gives our patients and clients an extra layer of care throughout the procedure.
