We love the Give Campaign !!!
The give campaign helps us each year, so that we can help cats like Amber who need more training and structure in order to get adopted.
Amber is an adoptable cat. Would do well as an only cat as she can cause a lot of stress to other cats by her outgoing and alpha personality. She loves to be your shadow and get pets. Very playful girl. She is about 2 years old
She has the softest coat you could pet!
Reach out to us via messenger if you would like to learn more! She’s dying to meet you!

We are participating in the Give Campaign this year! Look What The Cat Brought In is a nonprofit that exists to care for cats that require longer shelter stays than a traditional shelter can provide, securing adoption when each cat is healthy and emotionally ready. 🐱
We were founded in 2008 as the first shelter in Colorado Springs serving cats exclusively. πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸˆ

We have our daily expenses such as; food, utilities, litter, bleach, laundry soap, disinfectant (a special kind that kills a lot of germs related to animals)

We have our monthly expenses, medical expenses that range from a wellness check, to health diagnostics, and the all expensive dental πŸ˜…
Please help us continue to help more cats and consider learning more about the Give Campaign! πŸ€—

Amber is 4 years old and would be a great independent only cat. She is a shadow in the sense that she loves to follow you and help you with whatever you need! 🀠
She has been in our shelter for about a year

Amber was a mama cat when she came to us. She had a baby named Miracle, who was adopted pretty much as soon as he was able to be. Amber is looking for a patient loving home where she is free to express her cattitude πŸ’ƒπŸ½
She is can get overstimulated. (This may mellow once she gets into a home) She will warn you before she gets overstimulated 😸

We are thankful to have a great resource such as the Give Campaign
They offer special help to nonprofits with matching grants and trainings in order to help get noticed in the community.

If you haven’t already, check out their page! The season to give is right around the corner!

Ever wonder what the Give! Campaign is up to outside the live year-end campaign? During the summer months, the Give! Campaign hosts training workshops that build capacity of skill and knowledge for our nonprofit participants.

Last week, we heard from Barb Ferrill Van Hoy, beloved previous Executive Director of the Give! Campaign, on and rolled out exciting new improvements to our matching grant process!

So what's the deal with matching grants? Matching grants play a crucial role in the Give! Campaign. These generous philanthropists agree to match dollar-for-dollar public donations that come in through givepikespeak.org during the live campaign. By incentivizing public giving, matching grants build capacity in local nonprofits participating in the Give! Campaign. Interested in being a matching grantor? Reach out to us or drop a πŸ™‹πŸ½πŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™€οΈ below!

Thanks for coming, Mission Medical Center, Wild Connections, Bakhita Mountain Home, Sue's Gift - Gynecologic Cancer Support, Happy Cats Haven, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, First Tee - Southern Colorado, Friends of Monument Valley Park, Banning Lewis Ranch Academy, The Arc Pikes Peak Region, Catamount Institute, Pikes Peak Su***de Prevention Partnership, PHWFFC, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, Colorado Springs Therapeutic Riding Center, The PLACE, Inside Out Youth Services!

🐾 Cat Body Language 101 🐾

Understanding your feline friend's body language can deepen your bond and enhance communication. Here are cues to decode your cat's feelings:

πŸ‘‚ Ears: Upright and forward show curiosity, while flattened ears suggest fear or anger. Slightly flattened ears may indicate discomfort.

πŸ‘€ Eyes: Dilated pupils indicate arousal or fear, while constricted pupils signal aggression. Slow blinking or half-closed eyes can mean relaxation and trust.

πŸ’ͺ Body Posture: uptight, tense positions often indicate they are uncomfortable, while a relaxed body and even rolling in their back to show their Timmy can indicate they trust you.

Remember, individual cats vary, so observe the context and your cat's unique personality. Strengthen your bond and communicate effectively with your feline companion! 🐾❀️😻

We want you to know Hootie's story because she is a typical case of a middle aged cat that we helped become healthy and free of pain. Removing 9 teeth - $1600.00. Life without pain - priceless.

Dear friends and fellow animal lovers,

We are reaching out to our amazing community today with an urgent request for support. At Look What the Cat Brought In, the first cat-only rescue in our beautiful city, we recently had to provide a much-needed dental procedure for one of our beloved feline residents, Hootie. We're delighted to report that Hootie is recovering well, but this unexpected expense has put a strain on our nonprofit shelter's resources.

The cost of Hootie's dental care and 9 tooth extractions totaled $1600, ($1400 for the procedure and $200 for the ore check up appointment to determine a care plan) and as a local nonprofit, we rely heavily on the generosity of kind-hearted individuals like you to continue our mission of rescuing and caring for cats in need. Every dollar we receive goes directly towards providing medical attention, shelter, food, and love to our furry friends until we find them their forever homes.

By donating to Look What the Cat Brought In, you'll be making a tangible difference in the lives of not only Hootie but also countless other cats who are waiting for their home. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will go towards covering Hootie's dental expenses and ensuring our shelter can continue to operate smoothly.

Here are a few ways you can contribute:

1️⃣ Make a direct donation: You can donate securely through our website at
https://lookwhatthecatbroughtin.org/get-involved/

where you can choose the amount that works best for you.

2️⃣ Help us spread the word: Share this post with your friends, family, and colleagues who may also have a soft spot for our feline friends. Every share brings us one step closer to reaching our goal.

3️⃣ Volunteer your time: If you have a passion for cats and would like to make a hands-on difference, we're always in need of dedicated volunteers to help with daily operations and providing love and care to our resident kitties.

We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from our amazing community thus far, and we truly believe that together, we can overcome any challenge. Your compassion and generosity have made Look What the Cat Brought In a safe haven for countless cats in need.

Thank you for considering a donation to support Hootie's dental care and our ongoing rescue efforts. With your help, we can continue to provide the love and care these precious kitties deserve.

"Elvis has left the building!" came the announcement on the Petsmart store PA system.

This message marked the culmination of a long struggle for Elvis, a sweet cat who came to us with two badly fractured hind legs. He arrived from Kansas Humane Society - Wichita in December 2022. Although we were expecting a kitty with a fractured pelvis, we soon learned that in fact, his rear legs were both severely broken, probably from being hit by a car.

Our orthopedic surgeon told us that it was too risky to operate, because there was a substantial chance that he would lose one or both legs. He was prescribed cage rest, plus gabapentin and buprenorphine for 90 days. He was also neutered when he improved.

When he came in for a 45 day review, a different vet at our clinic asked me why we hadn't just euthanized him. I told him that Elvis had won our hearts in the first 5 minutes after we met him and that the staff would probably have walked out if we had given up. When the new vet saw his radiographs, he was amazed how the healing had progressed. By now Elvis was comfortably walking around in his kennel. Within a week or two we had given him his own room and were weaning him off the drugs.

We placed a few kittens in a kennel in the same room and Elvis started climbing to the top of their kennel so he could reach down from the top to play with them. Although we tried to adopt him from the shelter for 5 weeks, no one was interested.

We took him to Petsmart, with many caveats about his legs. He was adopted after only two days. Elvis has indeed left the building for a new life with a single adopter.

Why we helped Elvis:

He is less than two years old. We thought that his pain was well controlled,
He did not show any signs of concussion, He was FIV/FeLV negative. and he was well socialized.
