Dr. Broadhurst demonstrates the Around the World exercise with Cabo.

Dogs naturally move forward much more often than side to side. This exercise helps strengthen important hip stabilizers and supporting muscles that are often overlooked during normal daily activity.

By slowly guiding movement around the body, dogs improve balance, coordination, and hind limb control while building strength on both sides equally.

Dr. Broadhurst demonstrates one of her favorite rehabilitation exercises with Cabo: backing up.
While it may look simple, backing up requires dogs to engage important muscle groups in the hind limbs and core while improving coordination and body awareness. It is particularly useful for dogs experiencing muscle loss, weakness, or reduced hind limb function.

When performed correctly, this exercise helps build strength, confidence, and movement efficiency.

There was a stretch when this boy couldn’t walk. Not “moving a little slow” — couldn’t walk. And if you’ve ever stood in that place with your own dog, you know exactly how heavy those first days feel.
His pet parents kept showing up. Week after week. Through the good sessions and the ones that felt like nothing was changing. And Guapo — stubborn, handsome, brave Guapo — kept trying.
