Due to recent events and the current EHV outbreak…

Here are some things we recommend:

1. If your horse has been to any large events or has had known exposure in the last two weeks, please keep them home to quarantine away from others and your horses at home that did not travel. Practicing biosecurity, will be very important!

2. If they have had potential exposure, begin to check their temperatures twice daily for any temperature over 101.5.

3. If your horse is not vaccinated, has been exposed, and has events coming up, we recommend to get vaccinated for Rhino/Flu now! This can be done with our FluVac vaccine, or Pneumobort (specifically for EHV 1). Discuss this option with one of our veterinarians to decide what is best for your horse. A booster is also recommended if it has been 3 months since vaccination.

It’s been a busy last week around here, but we are back to introducing the rest of the staff!

Meet Christi Payne Hagen! Christi moved here a bit over a year ago. She is now living on her family’s ranch in Talpa. (Christi is Blake’s sister!) Christi is married and has one daughter and three grandchildren she adores. She is one of our front desk receptionists and you often hear from her on the phone! Christi knows how important our furry family members are, has great compassion and is always a listening ear when you’re waiting!

Meet Kylie Wallen! Kylie is a graduate of Angelo State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science and a Master’s in Animal Science and she grew up in Blum. She started working as a technician recently both with small and large animals and we’ve enjoyed having her! Kylie not only brings us laughter, but is very motivated to get the job done and take great care of your animals. (Below she is dressed as Dr. Mark for Halloween! 😊)

Meet Julie and CJeigh! Both of these girls you may recognize from being at the front.

Julie is a mother of 4 girls and lights up the room with her laugh and smile! She is the doer of all things from patient care, performing dentals on small animals, helping with boarding and surgical instruments and anesthesia. She’s also awesome at whelping our c-section pups! And on Saturdays you may see her back at the front desk.

CJeigh is a mother of 2 boys. She is now one of our part-time large animal technicians and mostly helps with the cattle work, taking care of outside, and large animal treatments. CJeigh is full of compassion for your pets and livestock and handles them with care! She is definitely a go-getter!

Next up are Kayla and Brittany, who were both graduates of Coleman High School and classmates.

Brittany is one of our large animal technicians. You may find her working cattle, helping with lameness exams and placing IV catheters, or helping with small ruminant surgeries and treatments. Brittany pays attention to detail and is always willing to help in any way! She has a dog named Honey, who she loves dearly!

Kayla is one of our small animal technicians. She takes care of any boarding animals and we are grateful for all the love she gives them! She manages all of our surgical instrument prep, monitors anesthesia, helps with our exams and diagnostics, places our IV catheters and takes care of hospitalized patients. Kayla is a mother of a sweet baby girl!

We couldn’t function without all the extra steps these girls do to keep us going that no one sees!

Recently, we celebrated Vet Tech Week! We are incredibly fortunate to have the staff we have here and all of their talent. There are a lot of wheels that turn around here and it takes every one of them to keep us moving. We’d like to introduce everyone through the week as there are some you may not see!

Blake Payne is our labratory technician. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Angelo State. Runs his own herd of boer goats for production and livestock shows. He runs all of our lab tests, including our small ruminant fecals that come in, maintains our lab equipment and handles our send-outs. But, you will also see him taking care of your small animals, monitoring anesthesia and at the sale barn!

Tiffany Janke is one of our large animal technicians. She is a mother of two kids with a Bachelors degree in Ag Business/Management, Master’s in Agriculture with a focus in Ruminant Nutrition and a certification in Equine AI from Sul Ross University. You will see her taking care of your horses and livestock, helping with exams, running anesthesia for surgeries, and will be a huge help in the spring come mare breeding season!
