Let’s talk about the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918!
The majority of calls I receive are downed baby birds!
3/4 of the bird calls I get I cannot help with. 😞 The Migratory Bird Treaty Act prohibits the capture, possession, and killing of over 1,000 birds. This also covers bird parts, feathers, eggs, and even nests. This Treaty also includes possession for the purpose of rehabilitation! There ARE licensed rehabs that are able to rehabilitate and rescue the birds that are protected under this Treaty. Judy the Skunk: Rescue and rehab specializes in small animals like skunks and raccoons. We do take birds that are NOT protected under this treaty. We work hand in hand with Wyoming Game and Fish to make sure we are always in compliance with the Migratory Bird Treaty act of 1918.

This little bluebird was caught in my wood burning stove. As you can see, she was rescued and IMMEDIATELY RELEASED out our front door. Mountain blue birds are PROTECTED in the Treaty.
We are currently rehabbing a sparrow which is NOT protected under the Treaty, and per the Wyoming Game and Fish regulations, you can possess a sparrow without a permit. Stay tuned for a little lesson on what to do if you find a baby bird!

Let me introduce another member of the family!
Phil is the dad of the house. Aside from Papi (our tarantula) he is the only man of the house. He’s an Afghan marine veteran 🇺🇸 and the muscle behind all the hard laborious work that goes into keeping our facilities in good shape. 💪 He’s a tough exterior with the biggest heart.

Likes: Napping with Judy the Skunk, gym time, and his amazing wife 😉
Dislikes: seeing animals hurt/in need, hot weather, all the aches and pains that come with being a combat vet.

I couldn’t do half the things I do without him and his support. 🖤
