We had a bittersweet adoption this past week. Bogie, aka Boo Bear, nka Bodie, found his dream home! Bodie came into WBHR on August 30, 2024 at just over 9 months old. His DNA showed him to be 65% basset hound and the other 35% made up of 17 breeds! Who would have guessed it would take nearly a year for him to land his home! Racheal has added Bodie to her pack and now he is going on trail rides, paddle boarding, hanging out with horses, best buds with Racheal's two other dogs, one who is Todd the basset hound, and just all and out living the life that other dogs dream of. Thank you beyond words to June and Ron for not only fostering Bodie all this time, but also getting him training and socialized to be a good boy! Racheal is teaching him wonderful new things in life and he will be forever cherished. This is the last placement for WBHR, but it has been worth the wait. Thank you also to Sara Bree and Anne, who transported him all those months ago to get him on his journey to his new life! Here are some photos from that transport start through the months to just this past week/

We took bloodhounds into WBHR starting in 2014 and on through 2020. We wanted to help another, similar breed to the beloved basset hounds. Truman was a gentle giant! Truman came into WBHR the first of November, 2016. He was an owner relinquishment and it was very hard for the family to let him go, but life doesn't always go like we want. Truman was just 4 years old at the time and he was fostered in Kaycee with Christy and Randy. He was adopted two weeks later by Chris and Patti, in Billings. Truman was such a character and a wonderful addition to their family! He and basset sibling Susie had so much fun. Unfortunately, Truman passed away on Tuesday, July 8, just a week after his 13th birthday! Look at that handsome, frosted face. Thirteen years is a long life for the larger breeds, but as we all know, it's too short no matter how long we have them. His family misses him greatly. But he and Susie are running things now at 'The Bridge' and life is good for them there! Until we meet again, Truman. You were loved and you knew it.

Another wonderful basset hound went to the Bridge this past week, on July 2nd, at 16 years old. Smudge, fka Jackson, came into WBHR on July 15, 2011 from the North Platte Animal Shelter in North Platte, NE as an unclaimed stray. He was guessed to be around 3 yrs old at the time, but probably a bit younger. He was fostered in Rawlins for a couple of months before being adopted to Red Lodge, MT. About 7 years later, due to medical conditions of his human family, Jackson came back to WBHR and was fostered by Wendy and Orry, in Billings. Two months later, December 2018, Wendy and Orry foster 'failed' and Jackson became Smudge and spent the last 6½+ years loving life! Smudge had bloodhound buddy Beau/Bumpus for several of those years, as his partner in crime. Quite the hound pair they were! Smudge is deeply missed by his family and buddy Bruce, but has now rejoined Beau/Bumpus at the Rainbow Bridge. Those two are hamming it up I'm sure! Until we see you again, Smudge, enjoy no more pain.
