K-9 Curriculum

K-9 Curriculum Dog training, grooming, nails and Dog toys and treats. Hi. My name is Lisa Monteith. I am the Owner, Trainer and Groomer at K-9 Curriculum, Inc.

I am a certified pet trainer and certified pet groomer. I am trained in Pet First Aid and CPR so whether your dog is training with me or being groomed they will be in good hands. I am a life-long animal lover and dog enthusiast. My motto is "The Best Things in Life Are Furry!" I was born in Asheville, North Carolina and raised in Glenville, North Carolina. I learned my love for animals from my Mom

and Dad. I have always dreamed of training and working with animals and thought its time to bring those dreams to life. I enrolled in the Penn Foster Grooming Program and the Dog Obedience Training Program at Animal Behavior College and here we go. . . When you think about all the dangers your dog could be exposed to in this world, it is hard to believe that the leading cause of dogs being surrendered to shelters and/or ultimately euthanized is behavior problems. Having a good relationship with your dog from the beginning, whether you get them as a puppy or adopt an older dog from a shelter is extremely important. K-9 Training Classes go along way to help you get this relationship off on the right paw.

Who knew.......Happy National Sticker Day. National Sticker Day is celebrated annually on January 13th, founded by StickerGiant in 2016 to honor R. Stanton Avery, the inventor of the modern self-adhesive label, and to celebrate the fun and creativity stickers bring to everyday life. It's a day for people to share their love for stickers, use them in unique ways (like decorating planners or laptops), organize sticker swaps, or even go on sticker scavenger hunts.

OFFICE DOG: FAE

Fae has never been shown any affection before arriving at the shelter. It took her a little while to even understand what it even was.

Now she can’t get enough.

She will melt into you once she gets to know you. She loves to always have a hand on on her or be touching you in some way. She will lean into you, and on you, if she gets half a chance.

She will lay down while you work, but the second she senses an opportunity for this new thing called affection she go for it.

If you want a loving dog that truly deserves love back, come meet her.

There are endless cuddles in your future.

A post a day gets Roco a home to stay! Day 117! Now that Bruce has found a home, Roco is our longest term resident. Let’s share this post to find Roco a home!

HUGE shoutout to Best Day Ever Doggy Day Care for sponsoring his adoption! Meaning it’s FREE! Don’t forget that ALL dogs adopted from JCAS get a discount on daycare and grooming services!

Meet Roco!
Age: 3 years old
S*x: neutered male
Weight: around 65 lbs
Behavior/Personality: Roco is a very sweet boy! He goes home with a volunteer most weekends, so he’s gotten the hang of home life. He’s house trained, good on a leash, and overall an extremely well behaved boy. He’s a good snuggler, rides well in the car, and is attentive without being needy. He’s been out in downtime Sylva and loves to hangout at lazy hiker and would make a good brewery dog! Last awesome and cool fun fact is that he saved his previous owner from a bear attack in Montana, talk about an impressive resume!
Energy Level: low-medium energy level
Dogs: We think Roco would love to have another dog friend! He came in with another dog and has done good with others, but we always recommend meet and greets!
Cats: unknown
Children: We don’t know for sure, but we think he would be fine with kids. We always recommend children meet a dog before they get taken home.

Call the shelter at 828-586-6138 to meet Roco!🎉

Today's Hero Dog

Brutis (Golden Retriever)

Brutis was a 7 year old golden retriever that valiantly saved a young child from a venomous coral snake as it was slithering dangerously close to him. He quickly snatched up the snake and went away before the snake could get to the boy. As a result, Brutis suffered a near-deadly bite from the snake but eventually made a full recovery. Venomous Coral snakes are known for being one of the most poisonous snakes in North America, and it could have been fatal had it bit the child. Luckily, Brutis did not hesitate for a second longer and risked himself anyways.
His heroics did not go unnoticed, and he was soon flown to Los Angeles to receive the National Hero Dog award.
“When we give an award like this, we’re looking for something extra, something that would make people wonder why a dog would do what he did.” said the committee who awarded him this award.
