🐾 To Our South Grand Lake Veterinary Clinic Family 🐾

At South Grand Lake Veterinary Clinic, we are committed to being here for our community and the pets who depend on us. We are incredibly grateful for the trust you've placed in us over the years, and we remain dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care.

Like many of you, we were saddened to learn of the recent closure of another local veterinary clinic. Unfortunately, this is a growing reality across rural America. Solo veterinary practices face increasing challenges, and veterinarians often work long hours in a physically and emotionally demanding profession with one of the highest rates of burnout.

As some families in our area are now searching for a new veterinary home, we hope to help as many pets as we can while continuing to provide the level of care our current clients have come to expect. To do that, we ask for your patience, understanding, and partnership.

Here are a few ways you can help us continue serving our community:
🐶 Plan ahead for routine care.
We are currently scheduling wellness appointments about two weeks in advance, and that wait time may increase. We send reminders one month before routine exams and vaccinations are due, so please call to schedule as soon as you receive yours.

📅 Please understand if we require an appointment deposit.
While this isn't required for every visit, deposits help reduce last-minute cancellations and no-shows so those appointment times remain available for pets who need them.

❤️ Please be patient with our scheduling team.
Our receptionists work incredibly hard to balance routine appointments with urgent medical needs each day. Sometimes they must prioritize patients based on the seriousness of their condition, and there may be factors behind the scenes that aren't immediately apparent. If we ever recommend another clinic for your pet's care, it's because we truly believe it's in your pet's best interest.

🌿 Remember that even veterinarians need time to recharge.
Dr. Broaddus occasionally takes time away for continuing education, family, or vacation. Those breaks are important—they help prevent burnout and ensure he can continue providing the care our community deserves for years to come.

💊 Please allow 24–48 hours for prescription refills and medical record requests.
Advance notice helps us process requests accurately while keeping our attention on the patients we're caring for each day.

💙 Most importantly, thank you.
Your kindness, patience, and words of encouragement mean more than you know. A simple "thank you" can brighten someone's entire day. Our team comes to work each day because we love caring for the pets of the Grand Lake community, and we are honored that you trust us with their care.
We know there will be challenges as our community adjusts to these changes, but with your support and understanding, we will continue doing what we've always done—providing compassionate care for the pets who need us.
From all of us at South Grand Lake Veterinary Clinic, thank you for being part of our family. We look forward to caring for you and your pets for many years to come. 🐾❤️

When was your pet's last blood test?

Routine bloodwork is one of the most valuable tools in preventive veterinary medicine. Pets age much faster than people, and many diseases can develop silently. Regular blood testing allows us to detect changes early, monitor organ health, and help your furry family members enjoy longer, healthier lives. 🐾❤️

No Fleas? That Doesn’t Mean Your Pet Is in the Clear!

One of the biggest myths in pet care is:
“I don’t see fleas, so my pet doesn’t need flea prevention.”

The truth? Fleas are incredibly good at hiding.

By the time you notice:

* Excessive scratching
* Flea dirt (tiny black specks)
* Hair loss
* Skin infections

…you may already have a full-blown infestation in your home.

**Only about 5% of the flea population lives on your pet.**
The other 95% exists as eggs, larvae, and pupae in your carpets, bedding, furniture, and yard.

That means your pet can be exposed even if you never spot a single flea.

And fleas are more than just a nuisance—they can cause:

* Severe itching and allergies
* Tapeworm infections
* Anemia, especially in puppies and kittens
* Transmission of diseases

**The best approach is prevention, not reaction.**

Veterinary-approved flea and tick preventives are safe, effective, and much easier than trying to eliminate an infestation after it starts.

Your pet may look perfectly fine, but consistent prevention is one of the simplest ways to keep them healthy and comfortable.

SPOTLIGHT ON SGLVC STAFF:

Cassidy recently returned to Oklahoma and South Grand Lake Veterinary Clinic after a two-year hiatus, and we are absolutely thrilled to have her back! Prior to her return, Cassidy worked with our team for more than three years and credits Dr. Broaddus for helping shape her technical skills and veterinary knowledge.

Born in Tulsa and raised in Vinita, Cassidy graduated from Vinita High School before attending Northeastern State University, where she studied biology for two years. Her love for animals extends beyond the clinic, as she shares her home with her cat, Tido, and her German Shepherd/Husky mix, Tyson.

Cassidy has a true passion for communicating with clients and is often the warm, friendly voice you hear when calling the clinic. Her bubbly personality and positive attitude make her a joy to be around, both for clients and coworkers alike. In addition to her client communication skills, Cassidy works hard behind the scenes to help keep the clinic’s daily schedule running smoothly.

When she is not working or dog-sitting, Cassidy enjoys spending time with family and taking her pets on adventures. She especially loves fishing, golfing, and any activity that involves being out on the lake.

Please join us in welcoming Cassidy back to the team!

SPOTLIGHT ON SGLVC STAFF:

Please meet Will (pictured with clinic cat Hambre):

Will is one of our fabulous veterinary assistants; he recently moved to Oklahoma after growing up in Texas. After graduating high school, he attended Louisiana State University where he received a B.A in Music and a B.S. in Animal Science.

Will has 4 dogs and 1 cat and he enjoys working out and playing video games in his downtime.

We are so pleased that Will is part of our team. The girls appreciate his strength, and Dr. Broaddus appreciates not being the only guy in the clinic! More importantly, we appreciate Will's calm and caring approach with our patients. Will puts his heart into what he does and it shows. He is trustworthy and reliable and a very valuable asset to SGLVC!
