Sometimes God uses the smallest things to remind us that He sees us. But also uses opportunities to bless others.

Last week, I was telling Jeff how nice it would be to have one of those coolers that can actually keep ice for days. You know, those bougie ones that cost WAY too much for us homesteader folk. Between flower events, petting zoos, dance, and three busy girls, we’re always on the go. Having one wasn’t a need. It was just a ‘want’ that would make life a little bit easier.

Fast forward to Sunday, we attended Barn Bash and our oldest daughter was one of the last two standing for one of the games and ends up winning a dadgone YETI cooler. Like way beyond our budget on something we could even consider purchasing for an item that is not a need for our family. And look how excited that girl is!!!

Cool right? But wow. The timing on this! Moments like these remind me that God is in the details. Not because He promises us material things, but because sometimes He blesses us in ways that simply make us stop and say, “Thank You, Lord.”

As grateful as we are for the cooler, the real reason for the evening was Five Hearts. They are doing incredible work through their equine-assisted programs, impacting children and families in ways that truly matter. We love everything they’re doing and want to use this little blessing to help pay it forward and bless them with more than the value of this cooler.

If you haven’t heard of Five Hearts, their mission is to provide equine-assisted activities for individuals and groups facing physical, mental, and emotional challenges, fostering personal growth, strength, and overall wellness in a caring and supportive environment.

If you feel led to support their work, we’ve included a donation link below for their program. We would love to see some of our followers get connected with Five Hearts through this post.

I’ve seen a lot of reels lately about husbands who married women not knowing they’d want a homestead and all the animals to go with it and now they’re stuck building fences, barns, animal shelters, and whatever else for “her”

The truth is, this isn’t just “my” dream.

Sure, I’m the one who talks about all the flowers we could grow, baby goats, and a life a little different than the world around us.

But he’s the one who built the fences.
Who goes out at 11pm to help a goat.
Who fixes a leak in 100 degree weather.
Who supports the next chick that I hatch even though he doesn’t know it yet 😜
The things that keep “my” ideas something that can actually happen.

And somewhere along the way, this stopped being about animals, gardens, or projects.

It became about creating a childhood our kids will remember.

A place where they know where food comes from.
Where hard work matters.
Where family works side by side.
Where there’s always dirt on someone’s boots and an animal needing fed.

People see the fences and buildings and think he’s building my dream.

What they’re really seeing is two people building the life we want for our family.

Man! It’s been a rough goat season around here. First we lost Clementine due to a pr*****ed uterus during her delivery, and now this morning we lost Cinder.

What makes this one especially hard is that there were no signs pointing to something fatal. After a petting zoo she had a loose stool, and we honestly just agreed she had probably gotten too much grain that day. Beyond that, she showed no other signs that concerned us. Then this morning, we found her gone. 😭

Cinder has been part of our homestead family for 5 years now. We bought her in 2021 from a lady who has since become a dear friend. She had already owned Cinder for about 5 years before that and had also bought her as an adult. So after talking this morning, we’re guessing she was around 12-13 years old.

People always ask us, “How old do goats live?” and my answer has always been, “Honestly, I don’t know!” Google says around 10-15 years, but we’ve only been doing this for 7 years ourselves. I guess now I can officially say Google seems pretty spot on.

Cinder was our oldest girl and very much the queen of the herd. If you ever came to one of our yoga classes, you probably heard us introduce her first. She was the boss lady of the goats. The group leader everyone listened to. BUT also one of the most affectionate girls towards her humans.

She was also an incredible mother with very strong genetics. Thankfully, I have several goats from her bloodline here on the homestead, and we’ll continue her legacy through them.

She will be missed tremendously around here!! 🤍🥺
