💜 One of my favorite things to see in training is a dog making the choice to settle.💜

Not because they were told over and over to stay on place.
Not because we’re constantly managing every move.
But because they’re starting to understand that relaxing is an option.

When a pup chooses to go to place, lie down, and decompress on their own, that’s a big win. 🙌

We’re not just teaching commands—we’re helping dogs learn how to regulate themselves, make better choices, and find calm even when life is happening around them.

That ability to switch off is a skill, and just like anything else, it gets stronger with practice.

Watching a dog realize, “I can just hang out here and relax,” is pretty awesome. 🐾

What does feeding time look like at Lady D? 🥣🐾

Well… one thing it’s not is chaotic. 😂

Feeding time is structured, calm, and intentional. Everyone has their place and knows the routine.

While I’m putting bowls down, my pack holds Place and waits. Most of our pups eat in their crates because it keeps mealtime safe, controlled, and stress-free—but every dog is different. Sometimes a pup simply eats better outside of the crate, so we adjust while still keeping structure in place.

And just because the bowl hits the floor doesn’t mean it’s time to dive in! 👀

Before eating, each pup must:
🐾 Sit
🐾 Give eye contact
🐾 Wait for the release

Then they’re released to their bowl. 🥣

It may seem like a small routine, but feeding time is another opportunity to practice impulse control, patience, engagement, and good manners.

At Lady D, training doesn’t only happen during “training sessions.” We build structure into the everyday moments too. 💜🐶

💜 🐾A balanced dog helps create a balanced pack. 🐾💜

When a reactive dog is introduced into a balanced pack, the other dogs can help show them a different way to respond. Instead of matching the reactive dog’s energy, the balanced dogs stay calm, neutral, and steady.

That gives the reactive dog an opportunity to figure out a better way to use that energy—to slow down, observe, make different choices, and learn how to simply be around other dogs without always reacting.

This is where the pack can be such a powerful part of training. Dogs influence each other, and calm, regulated dogs can help create an environment where another dog can practice being calmer, more confident, and more thoughtful.

The goal isn’t just a dog who can follow commands. It’s a dog who can handle pressure, recover from stress, make better choices, and move through the world with confidence.

Balanced body. Balanced mind. Better pack. 🐕💪

Happy 4th of July from the Lady D family! 🇺🇸🐾

Fireworks are loud, but the noise itself doesn’t have to become the issue. Dogs look to us for information, so when we tense up, hover, panic, or make a big deal out of every sound, we can unintentionally communicate that something is wrong.

Stay calm. Keep the routine normal. Don’t feed nervous energy into the moment.

The goal isn’t to force your dog to “get over it.” It’s to show them, through your own steady behavior, that the noise is nothing they need to worry about.

Keep your dog safely indoors, provide a secure space, and make sure their identification information is current.

Calm energy. Clear leadership. Normal routine.

Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and joyful Independence Day! ❤️🤍💙

Well, Cleo is now on bed rest with me. She was diagnosed with IVDD, so meds and rest are in order. 💜

VEG ER for Pets Emergency Vet was amazing. We walked in and triage started right away with no waiting. We were able to stay with Cleo the entire time, and they had sitting areas with dog mats, plus treats for both humans and pups. After everything, they even sent us home with a little gift bag.

Thank you, Dr. Horack, America, and Sophia, for taking such great care of our girl. 💜
