Native garden transformation! My mom is visiting so we moved the zinnias from the rock garden, amended the soil, and filled it with native flowers from Gabriella the Garden Sage, Crow's Nest Greenhouses, and Wood Thrush Native Nursery.

While I wait for the tomatoes to ripen, I thought I'd start posting some vegan baking tips. This is my go-to vegan butter recipe. I make it in big batches because I use so much, and it saves me a LOT of money. I use a stick blender to emulsify it then refrigerate some for general use and freeze the rest.

How to make vegan butter at home with NO hard-to-find ingredients! Easy, quick and you only need a whisk and a bowl. Perfect for baking!

Join us at Millstone Kitchen every other Wednesday from late August to October for Open Preservation Hours!

Unsure of what to do with all of the produce from your garden?
Don't want to make your home so steamy by heating a canning pot for hours?
Just looking to see the kitchen, meet some new friends, and glean some knowledge and inspiration for preserving the season's bounty?

Bring your produce and materials (jars, knives, vinegar, etc) to Millstone and preserve with us! Our kitchen coordinator, Lindsey, will be available to help you accomplish your projects, and we'll have vacuum bags, jars, fermentation weights, and additional materials for purchase. Books and recipes will be available for inspiration, and of course we'll draw you a bath - a water bath for canning, that is!

We’re at Moon Hollow Brewing today until 4pm! The cookies, bread, and donuts have been flying already, but we have plenty left. We’re all in on fruity flavors this week: blueberry donuts, mango peach donuts, blackberry coconut cake, orange ricotta muffins, lemon basil cookies, orange ginger cookies, and all the usual bread and tea 🖤

I’m making lemon basil cookies for tomorrow’s Moon Hollow Brewing bake shop. I harvested fresh basil from the garden to make basil sugar and used the extra to make vegan pesto that I’ll use in homemade pasta.

Blueberry donut bake test success! I didn’t let the ganache set long enough because I’m lazy, and I went a bit berserk with the sprinkles. These will be prettier on Sunday, but a messy donut is still a delicious donut, and we’ll enjoy these testers in the meantime.k

Here is the tentative menu for this Sunday's Moon Hollow Brewing pop-up. This week, I'm focusing on fruit flavors — lemon, orange, blueberry, mango, peach, blackberry! The donuts are still being tested, but we'll definitely have everything else. And yes, I will continue bringing this blackberry coconut cake until everyone realizes how amazing it is!

I’d like to try growing garlic for the first time this year. Can anyone recommend varieties and/or local places to buy seed garlic? I’m in Christiansburg, but I don’t mind a bit of a drive.
