I am in LOVE with this beautiful gentle giant 💓💓💓 But alas no room at the Inn. Pineapple is a stunning 3 year old 113 lb (should be at least 120) dapple Great Dane and let me show you in pictures and videos how great she is! She is stuck in the overcrowded shelter and she needs a home where she will be loved, have a warm bed to lay on and lots of love which she will return to you in spades ❤️PLEASE SHARE this sweetest, well behaved girl!!!!

It is obvious Pineapple was used for gorgeous babies and here she is 😭 Pineapple is sweet, loving and knows all the things. Pineapple walks gentle on leash, she sits, she lays down and shakes. Pineapple loves belly rubs and hugs. Pineapple keeps her paws on the ground and honestly, I saw not one opportunity with her in the time I spent with her💓 Pineapple is great with other dogs, all people and unknown on cats. She is in a kennel with two other dogs, and there is just not enough room for this baby to move around, please spread the word. Isn't she beautiful??!!!

🚨 PSA: Why Cream of Tartar Can Be Dangerous for Dogs

🧪 What is Cream of Tartar?

Cream of tartar is a cooking ingredient (potassium bitartrate) often used in baked goods — think meringues, frostings, cookies, and holiday desserts.

It sometimes shows up not just in stand-alone ingredient lists, but hidden inside baking powders or old recipes.

⚠️ Why It’s Risky for Dogs

Recent veterinary reports show that ingestion of cream of tartar (or related tartaric-acid containing foods) has led to acute kidney injury (AKI) in dogs.

The suspected culprit: tartaric acid (or its salt, potassium bitartrate) — the same compound believed to be behind kidney failure in dogs that eat grapes, raisins, or tamarind.

Clinical signs may include vomiting, lethargy, weakness, and — in serious cases — severe kidney damage.

🍪 Common Foods Where It’s Found

Holiday and everyday baked goods: cookies, cakes, meringues, frostings

Baking powder or recipes that call for it (even if you don’t see “cream of tartar” on the label)

Homemade items like play-dough or craft dough (which sometimes use cream of tartar) — kid-safe doesn’t necessarily mean “pet-safe.”

What To Do If Your Dog Eats Something With Cream of Tartar

1. Act quickly — even a few hours after ingestion can make a big difference. Early intervention (vomiting if safe, GI decontamination) improves outcomes.

2. Call a veterinarian or the Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661) for guidance.

3. Do NOT assume small amounts are safe. While some sources note that a tiny accidental ingestion may only cause mild upset, the risk of serious kidney damage is real.

4. Prevent future incidents — keep baked goods and baking ingredients out of reach, especially around the holidays when cookies are everywhere.
