THEY SURVIVED THE EXPERIMENT.
THEY DIDN’T SURVIVE THE SYSTEM. 💔
Many beagles used in laboratory research are purpose-bred.
While other dogs are welcomed into homes and families, these dogs may spend their lives being used in experiments.
And what happens behind laboratory doors is something the public
👏🏻DESERVES 👏🏻 to know.
In a scientific study published in 2024, researchers administered repeated doses of a drug called levamisole to 20 beagles over 28 days.
Some dogs experienced:
-vomiting
-tremors
-convulsions
-reduced activity
-and difficulty walking.
Researchers also documented minor brain hemorrhages during tissue examinations. 😢
But here’s what many people don’t realize. 👇🏼
All 20 dogs SURVIVED the 28-day experiment.
And all 20 were subsequently euthanized. 💔
The study’s protocol required postmortem examinations so researchers could examine their organs and tissues.
Surviving the experiment DIDN’T mean these dogs were given another chance at life.
👀AND THERE’S ANOTHER SIDE TO THIS STORY.
The FDA has acknowledged significant limitations in how well animal studies predict human drug responses.
In fact, more than 90% of drugs that appear safe in animals ❌FAIL❌ during human drug development.
🎉But science is advancing.
Researchers are developing human-relevant methods, including:
✔️organs-on-chips
✔️human tissue models ✔️advanced computer simulations
These ⬆️IMPROVE drug safety testing while ⬇️REDUCING reliance on animals.
These methods are already becoming part of the FDA’s efforts to modernize drug development.
✅Better science for humans.
💚Less suffering for animals.
👉🏻That’s the future we want to see.
