We are SO lucky...to have Lucky!

Watch the video. Now watch it again. Are you in love yet? we sure are!

Lucky, senior citizen (supposedly ~60 years old!) Blue-Front Amazon that he is, certainly doesn't act like it! Lucky is the second of three geriatric parrots who joined us after his human began to struggle with dementia, and while Lucky struggled alongside him- it's easy to tell from his animated conversation with foster mama Annie that he is truly a happy-go-LUCKY guy!

Like the other birds from his former household, Lucky was also diagnosed with Avian Borna Virus, he has a growth on his abdomen, and arthritis too- but with special needs accommodations like wrapped perches and platforms to rest upon, he is learning how to navigate his new situation with aplomb. This older gentleman will need regular vet visits and tweaks to his environment to make sure he is comfortable, and he must go to an experienced household without other birds, or one that is equipped to deal with ABV. Lucky is on two different types of medication for life, but that doesn't stop him from sharing joy with the humans he encounters- and it's certainly contagious!

Could Lucky be the sweet baby for you? Consider filling out an adoption application today! clearescue.org/adopt

CLEARies, we've been holding back on you- can you ever forgive us?

In September we spent a month preparing to respond to a wonderful family whose patriarch is struggling with dementia. His family reached out to us knowing that his 3 birds- while well loved- deserved more support. They had a pleasant view out a big picture window and were enjoying classical music when we arrived- but their cages were far too small, and enrichment and nutrition were lacking. Unfortunately all 3 of these birds tested positive for Avian Borna Virus.

Meet Mathilda, the first of these 3 birds. She is a ~30 year old Alexandrine Parrot. She and her brother cost us a whopping $1K EACH in vet bills at their first exam, so she's clearly a fancy aristocratic lady of means (or, at least she thinks she is). Imagine if Dames Judi Dench or Helen Mirren were a parrot.

Mathilda is the healthiest of the three, and she is ready to be considered as CLEAR's Most Eligible Old Lady Parrot. We're still getting to know her quirks and preferences, but we do know that she will be on daily medication for the rest of her life, and as a carrier for Borna, she'll need an experienced home either without other birds OR in a household that is already equipped to deal with ABV. Quarterly vet visits to check her health status are a must. This is a tall order for an old lady, but we know bird love isn't a deserted island- it's a village. Welcome to CLEAR, Mathilda!

We are now accepting adoption applications for Mathilda via our website- apply today! clearescue.org/adopt

Happy birthday to repeat adopter Karen, and hooray for Loki! Loki joins our first ever cockatiel, Boden, and Duncan from the 2023 Spice Birds cockatiel transport (as well as a trio of 3 male budgies who are CLEAR alumni)! This is the BEST fraternity to join, and we're so glad for everyone! 💕

👀 Our first cool weather plant hitchhiker has arrived! This TINY Bahaman Anole's finder managed to corral them into a big catcher, and then we transferred them to a critter keeper. Fortunately for this little guy, vet tech Brittany always has room for our smallest friends. 🫶 Time for a fruit fly snack and some recovery time.
