Adoptable Alert!!!

Okay CLEARies, we've been holding out on you. Una and Geiger arrived at the beginning of March, but it's taken us this long to manage their care and comfort in such a way as to present them for adoption. These cuties came to us after being passed around from dementia resident to dementia resident at a senior facility that didn't even allow pets to begin with.

Coming from somewhere where they were unable to receive proper care, it's no wonder that these birds only have one properly functioning leg between the two of them. Una, our little pied lady, was named such because she only has one leg. Her boyfriend Geiger was in a cast for a few weeks, unfortunately that was not enough to rectify his deformed leg. Under advisement from our amazing veterinary partners, we set up a special needs enclosure for them and are hoping that a very special, very patient forever family will step up to help these two live their best lives. Everyday we work with them is an absolute gift, and we hope that others out there will feel the same.

We are pretty sure that our friend Flight escaped his previous family so that he could invent the interstate system. Flight (his street name is Flighty D) was a stray found in Skokie in April, and we love how deliberate he is. It took him a little bit of time to get comfortable with us, but once he graduated from quarantine and moved into the bird room Flight blossomed into a still-introspective parakeet who loves his swing and would benefit from 1:1 human training and/or a budgie brother to help with his confidence. He is our very favorite general.

Happy Sunday! There's so much to celebrate today. Between holidays and adoptions, our hearts are so overjoyed today. We'd like to congratulate Tiko on his forever family! Thanks to Veterinary Emergency Group - Buffalo Grove, Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital, and volunteer Jackie for the IMMENSE amount of reptile equipment donations! Hope and Sunny, perpetual neighbors, moved in today after their ridiculous landlady finally got her act together, and boy are these gents adorable! 🥰 They've had mutual crushes since day one, and now they're HOPING (get it?) to find their forever home together.

If you're in the market to adopt the perfect pair of budgie bookends, these boys are just the ticket. Introducing birds should be done slowly, and we're thrilled with this result!

Congratulations to Reptar and his new forever home!

Before coming to CLEAR, Reptar was abandoned at a pet store in pretty rough shape including missing toes and a respiratory infection. The adult male blue tongue skink was rehabilitated at his loving foster homes in partnership with Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital. Reptar has regained health, confidence and is living his best life munching bugs in his fully bioactive enclosure at his forever home! We welcome Tom, a long time reptile enthusiast, into the CLEAR family.

Happy Wednesday, CLEARies-- An adoptable, rehabilitation update: This is Elphaba.

Elphaba's old shoulder injury does not impede her ability to live a full budgie life. Although she will need twice daily pain meds for the rest of her days, she takes her meds like a champ and maintains a winning disposition.

Elphaba's injuries resulted in vet visits, medication, and extra care. She will need a special person who is prepared for her daily needs, and CLEAR will be ready to support humans and parakeets through every step of the way.

I firmly believe that the more nicknames a pet has, the more loved they are.

Bella Katz, Bean, Beanbean, Queen Bean, Queen of the Budgies, the Beyonce of Budgies, beloved problem child pocket chicken, Bells, BellaKatzmakegoodchoices. Rescued 4/18/23 - 4/1/25.

Bella had a hyperactive reproductive drive and needed lupron shorts every 3 weeks. She had a heart condition and high liver values and needed two meds everyday. By the time she had been with CLEAR for a year, she was so good at taking her meds that I didn't ever need to towel her.

She was fierce and feisty and wanted to mate with every_single_parakeet she ever met. Bella exemplified Love is Love, and that- partnered with her perfect manners when it came to stepping up on fingers, shoulders, and heads made her the perfect education ambassador budgie. I loved her deeply, and she taught me so much.

Bella came to us via our friends at Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital, where her first family had been beloved clients until her human dad passed away. Her first human mom wasn't able to care for her, and when I received the call about her- I said, absolutely- we'll take her. Bella was loved her whole life. She was my Beanie girl, and I'm so grateful that she was able to teach the masses never to underestimate the power and possibilities of belonging to a budgie.

Adoptable Alert! Meet Hope 🤩 Just look at this glow-up!

Hope arrived as a stray from Ravenswood, cold and bedraggled, on January 25th. He presented with a broken leg, which our wonderful veterinary partners treated with a splint, pain meds, and prescribed cage rest. Exactly 2 months later, on March 25th, our feisty Little Boy Boot graduated from all of the above and was given a clean bill of health! Although he was confined to a special needs cage for a period of time, Hope developed a huge crush on his lookalike quarantine buddy, Sunny, and now they live side-by-side, hoping to be adopted together. Hope is a feisty boy who knows how to get around, and someone seeing him for the first time would never know that he had suffered a broken leg.

We encounter different animals and their unique needs every day. Most of of these animals have had a rough time-- by no fault of their own. But we can help them thrive. You can help them thrive.
