Home Farm

More than a century ago, George Wood purchased 1,000 acres of land in the sleepy town of Wawa, Delaware County. The fertile pastures were an ideal place to graze his herd of Guernsey cows, and the location allowed for delivery of fresh, raw milk to homes throughout the Philadelphia region. Thus, Wawa Dairy was founded.

“Wawa Home Farm” is still owned by the Wood family and is one of the largest, privately held, undeveloped properties remaining in the County. Thanks to the generosity of George Wood’s descendants, it will remain that way… forever. A portion of the farm, 76 acres, is owned by members of the Wood family in a corporation, Tierra Du Bois, LLC. This land is now protected under an agricultural easement held by Natural Lands. In additional Tierra Du Bois, LLC leases 22 acres from Natural Lands and an additional 94 acres form a Wood Family Trust.

Home Farm Stables is a working horse farm where we offer self-care boarding. We have over 21 acres of pasture and about 200 acres to ride and explore on. In addition, we crop hay on approximately 55 aces of the 200 acres. There is an apiary where bees produce honey from local native plants and flowers. Chester County Beekeepers Association is currently using the apiary to conduct beginner beekeeping classes. Our horse manure is collected and turned into compost using aerated static piles. It is then spread back on the pastures as a rich nutrient fertilizer to improve the quality of pasture grasses. We strive to be a self-sustaining, environmentally friendly agricultural operation.
