Athena started school today!

She is doing our drop off training program. She has a number of social issues to work though, but her first day went pretty well. She picked up her new commands nicely!

SUB-NOVICE CLASS

Our next Sub-Novice class is:
Wednesday from 6:45-7:30 PM starting August 20

This level of class is eight weeks long. The goal in this level is to get all of the training you have already started (on the leash) now started off leash!

Our next basic class!

We have:
Tuesday from 6:45-7:30 PM starting August 12

This level is 5 weeks long in person. It also includes zoom meetings on Thursday nights to cover behavioral problems!

In this level we start working building a foundation for all on leash obedience (heel, come, stay, etc) and cover ALL behavior problems (mouthing, jumping, aggression). In this level we are working on dealing with distractions so they respond regardless of surrounding distractions, and teaching the dog to respond on the first command. We are working towards getting them ready to start off leash in the next class.

TRAINING TIP OF THE WEEK!

“Buddy, sit…. Buddy! Sit!…. Siiiiit….. sit….. sit…. SIT!!!”

Sound familiar? It is so important when you’re training your dog that you teach them to respond to the first command!

During your training, if you give multiple commands, the dog learns they can respond whenever they feel like it. A year later, your dog still expects to be given multiple commands before they actually follow through.

They do not ✨magically✨ start to respond on the first command if they were not taught that way 😂😖…. So it’s important that we teach them the way that we want them to do it starting from day one!

One command! They hear it once, they do it. Repeat over and over. They learn to respond on the first command. ❤️
