🐾 National Dog Bite Prevention Week 🐾

Recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), this week is all about keeping both people and pets safe. Veterinary teams work hard every day to provide the best care possible—and safety is a team effort!

Here’s how you can help protect your pet and your veterinary care team:

✔️ Let us know if your pet has shown any signs of fear or aggression
✔️ Allow trained veterinary technicians to safely restrain your pet during exams and procedures
✔️ Understand that muzzles are not a punishment—they are a safe, temporary tool to protect your pet and everyone involved
✔️ Bring your pet in a secure carrier or on a leash
✔️ Help reduce stress with training, socialization, and (when recommended) pre-visit medications

Our goal is always compassionate, low-stress care. By working together, we can create a safer, more positive experience for every visit.

April is National Heartworm Awareness Month

At our clinic, we want to remind you that heartworm disease is a serious — but preventable — condition that can affect both dogs and cats.

While heartworm disease isn’t as common in Iowa as it is in some southern states, it is still very much a concern here. All it takes is one infected mosquito to put your pet at risk.

Heartworms are spread by mosquitoes and can cause severe damage to the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. The scary part? Pets can be infected long before showing any signs.

The good news: prevention is simple, safe, and much more affordable than treatment.

✔️ Keep your pet on year-round heartworm prevention
✔️ Schedule annual heartworm testing for dogs
✔️ Talk to us about the best prevention options for your pet

Call us today to schedule a test or refill prevention!
