When we started Better Dog Co., we knew we wanted to do more than provide structured fitness for dogs. We wanted to be part of helping dogs in our community when they need it most. We’re honored to be a hospice foster for Joshy.

Joshy is a senior cattle dog with cancer, and while we can’t change his diagnosis, we can make sure his days are filled with comfort, love, and plenty of soft places to nap. We have a special place in our hearts for both cattle dogs and seniors, and fostering is one of the most meaningful ways we’ve found to help. Not every foster story ends with adoption, sometimes the goal is simply to give a dog the safe and peaceful retirement they deserve.

Whether it’s donating fitness sessions to shelter dogs, supporting rescues, or opening our home to hospice fosters, we believe community support should be something you can see making a difference.

We’re grateful to Blue Ridge Canine Safehouse for trusting us with Joshy, and we’re looking forward to making sure he enjoys every day ahead.

☀️ One thing most dog owners get wrong about summer walks…

Air temperature isn’t the same as ground temperature.

When it’s 77°F outside, asphalt can reach temperatures hot enough to burn paws. By the mid-to-upper 80s, pavement can become dangerously hot in a matter of minutes.

A quick rule of thumb: if you can’t comfortably hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

That doesn’t mean your dog suddenly needs less exercise, though.

High-energy dogs still need an outlet for their physical and mental energy, which is why a slatmill can be such a great summer solution. Your dog gets a safe, controlled workout without scorching pavement, extreme humidity, or worrying about the hottest part of the day.

Keep your dog safe. Keep them active. 🐾
