It’s been a difficult week for FCRR 😔
On Monday, Ivan crossed the rainbow bridge. Despite our hopes and efforts, we made the heartbreaking decision to choose behavioral euthanasia for him. This is one of the hardest parts of rescue, and something we never take lightly 💔 We understand BE can be a controversial topic but we believe in transparency and this was a decision made with heavy hearts, careful consideration, and compassion for everyone involved. Rescue means celebrating the victories, but it also means facing the heartbreaking realities and sometimes, the right choice is the hardest choice.
Yesterday, we lost Preacher to colic. He had an intestinal strangulation, where a section of the bowel becomes trapped, twisted, or constricted. The vet was here within 45 minutes but he was declining quickly. Due to his age, size and the severity of the situation, surgery was not a reasonable option and we laid him to rest. It was very sudden and feels so unfair. We’re still trying to process everything ourselves but right now, making sure Bak adjusts is our priority. These guys absolutely experience grief when they lose a buddy and we’re keeping a very close eye on him.
The last few days left us with a tremendous amount of grief and unfortunately, another large bill. We currently have an outstanding balance of $1,238.50 - $788.50 for Preacher’s vet bill and $450 for his burial.
