LifeLine Foster

LifeLine Foster Volunteer run page, not official LifeLine, to showcase LL fosters & those needing foster homes. I’m a volunteer and foster mom for LifeLine Animal Project.

I share information about foster animals-mainly from LifeLine-animals in urgent need of foster homes, and resources for those who adopt shelter animals. If you want to sponsor a post for a foster dog or dog in need of a foster home, send $10 to PayPal.Me/DHammacher. Unless otherwise requested, the post will cover the greater Atlanta metro area.

Where are my shy dog people? Please share if you can't adopt.
"I can’t tell you what made me get in my car that day—

I guess I thought I’d try to make up for it,
When the world decided he shouldn’t be in it.

He sank into the shelter floor,
Hoping it would swallow him whole,
Hoping I would leave him behind.
But I told him I wasn’t leaving without him.

So I carried all 55lbs of him to the car.

On the drive home,
he tried to disappear into the floorboard,
His world was too loud,
So we drove home in silence.

And many nights over the next 9 months,
I went to sleep drying my eyes.
Angry at myself,
For forcing him to go into this world that hurt him.

Each walk was cruelty ,
Each stranger was survival.
And each night I thought,
Maybe they were right,
That euthanasia was kinder.

Instead of teaching him to sit,
I had to teach him just to stand tall,
Like no one had ever hurt him at all.

Instead of learning fetch,
We learned that touch doesn’t mean pain,
That the world doesn’t have to hurt at all.

“The most broken dog I’ve ever met, but let’s try to glue these pieces back together” his trainer said.

Over the next 3 months,
We watched him stand a little taller for a few minutes at a time,
But minutes turned to hours,
And hours turned to days.
Then he took his first walk…with his tail held as high as his head.

I prayed I would know the right moment to take these walls down,
That I spent a year building around him,
To shield his fragile heart.

Then today,
I watched him find joy in a rain puddle,
Dancing in the rain, a new meaning.

So today, I told him he stood taller than all the walls I’ve built.
That we would start searching for his person
Who was somewhere waiting to dance in the rain with their soul dog.

He is still a scared boy, but he's now brave enough to take the next step in his journey to his forever home.
A home with the person who will continue to patiently help him stand tall and find joy in the world.

😍 DOG-FRIENDLY! KID-FRIENDLY! 🥰
Who’s looking for a snuggle buddy who’s also a perfect car rider?

Sammie is a 2-yr-old guy who is a perfectly sweet and lovable companion. He just needs a forever family or a long-term foster.
He went to temporary foster with an adopter in place that fell through. We welcomed him with open arms and began working with him on training with simple commands and potty training. He has made enormous improvements in that direction!

We are now quickly approaching the deadline where his foster will be traveling too much to continue fostering over the summer months. He must be placed before May 23 😭🥺

Foster mom: "Sammie is a wonderfully, cuddly and super affectionate baby boy. He has been very friendly with every other dog he’s met and with children younger and older. While he is crate trained, he would much rather snuggle in the bed 😂. Don’t let his blocky head and stocky body fool you, this 50-lb sack of kisses is 100% beta personality everywhere except his food bowl. That was quickly remedied by just separating his and my other dogs bowls at feeding times. He is not a barker when delivery drivers or guest show but, does get lonely/whiny in his kennel and would honestly do best with another pet."

To learn more or to meet this hunk, fill out the form on his profile, linked below. He is in foster for Fulton County Animal Services in Atlanta.

Meet Ramona.
Her foster is moving in a few weeks and has not been able to secure housing. She is looking for a new or at least temporary foster--or adopter for Ramona.

If she can't find dog-friendly housing soon, "I will have to return her to the shelter by June 2nd. I really do not want to take Ramona back. Ramona was on the e-list a couple of months ago and I’m afraid she will be back on the list. Even if someone can hang on to her for a month or two I would be willing to continue fostering her. She has truly thrived in my home and is an amazing smart dog. Here are a few things to know about her:

-She is a 65 pound cuddle bug.
-She is non destructive and can be left alone for several hours.
-Potty trained (no accidents)
-She is very smart and treat oriented. She knows/is mastering commands such as sit, paw, down, down stay, stay, roll over and spin. She listens verbally but I also use sign language.
-She sleeps through the night from about 9:30-830 a.m.
-Loves sunbathing in the yard
-Loves car rides
-Loves walks but still learning how to not pull on the leash
-Ramona may do best in a home without other animals although it doesn’t seem impossible. She can walk parallel to other dogs but she also tries to chase the stray cats in the neighborhood."

If you can help with an adopter or a foster takeover even just for a month or two as her foster seeks dog-friendly housing, please reach out. Please share to help her find her forever home!
She is available for adoption/foster takeover through Dekalb County Animal Services in metro Atlanta.

: Olive Leaf 🐾💛

Second Shot has teamed up with to help senior shelter dogs get noticed and a Second Shot at adoption.

Senior dogs are often overlooked but offer perks like calmer temperaments, house training, and lower energy needs—making them ideal companions.

Thanks to Brookdale, Second Shot will take photos of senior pets across our nationwide network of shelters April–July, all leading up to August 3rd, which is National Senior Pet Day.

Good news: your best friend is welcome at Brookdale, too.

This is Olive Leaf and she is available for adoption from in Atlanta.

Olive Leaf is 9 years and 7 months old and is a friendly, happy girl who absolutely loves life. She’s incredibly playful for her age and has the cutest habit of flicking her fetch toy back at you instead of dropping it—basically inviting you to keep the game going. 🎾✨

She walks well on leash, has a beautiful golden coat, and is always smiling with a constantly wagging tail. She’s an all-around good girl just waiting to bring joy into someone’s life. 💛 Learn more: bit.ly/adopt-oliveleaf

Update 5/27/26: Trial adoption underway!
Update 5/9/26: Doorsey is back at LifeLine's CAC. If you can foster or adopt--or even Dog for the Day or Weekend Warrior--please go meet him!

Doorsey is one of the lucky ones. He's been in a foster home for a year, enjoying a soft bed, going on beach trips, napping on the couch.

But his foster is moving out of the country and hasn't marketed Doorsey at all for adoption. He thought a friend was going to take over fostering, but that fell through.

That means 4 yr-old Doorsey is headed back to LifeLine's Community Animal Center (CAC) in Atlanta, as soon as this weekend. 😭

Doorsey is an easy, cuddly, loyal guy who deserves a forever home. He's potty trained and can be left loose without mischief. His foster says Doorsey is "Very friendly with people, really chill at home, house trained, can be left home alone and he won't make a mess." He says Doorsey is easy on leash (except for scooters and bicycles) and is a couch potato who is also up for walks and hikes. 🥰

He does well with dogs with a slow introduction and has been content as an only dog. No kitties for this guy. If you're open to fostering or adopting Doorsey, please inquire on his profile, linked below. 👇 If not, please share to help him find a place to land that is not a shelter. Thank you!

Meet Nucleus, the lovable goofball. His foster dad: "I mean, there's so much to Nuke. He's very regimented and will let you know he's ready for his morning walk. Something he never wants to go without. But the rest of the day, he's content to sleep and snore on the couch or snuggle up and watch Netflix.

"He never meets a stranger and wants to make all the new friends he can, two-legged or four-. He's not really food-motivated, so you don't have to worry about begging at the table.

"He's crate-trained, and he knows to let you know when he needs to go outside. Usually, this is him calmly sitting by the front door, but if you miss the signal, he'll come find you.

"He's also just a lovable goofball when he's playing outside or with other dogs. He wants to play with cats, but he doesn't understand that they are not 60-pound dogs like he is, and they don't like barking or roughhousing."

Nucleus is living in a home with kids too! He's in foster for LifeLine's Community Animal Center in metro Atlanta.

To meet this lovable goofball, fill out the form on his profile, link in comments, to be in touch with his foster parents.
