As the holiday season begins, we had a wonderful moment to pause and celebrate the people and pets who make DeKalb County Animal Services such a special place. We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to VCA Charities for helping make the Thanksgiving Holiday truly meaningful at our shelter.

Our entire team and the animals in our care were able to enjoy a warm and memorable Friendsgiving meal together. Staff and volunteers were treated to Chipotle as a holiday celebration, and the animals, including the 455 dogs in our care, received their own Thanksgiving turkey dinners.

We are forever thankful to VCA Charities for supporting the people and pets who rely on us each day!

We’re thrilled to share that our shelter population is at one of its lowest points this year, just 453 dogs. Thanks to our incredible community helping so many dogs find loving homes, this will be our third week in a row without needing to create an urgent list. We hope adoptions and foster placements continue, especially with our Black Furday free adoption promotion running from Friday, 11/28 through 12/7.

Come visit us at 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Road to meet your new best friend and help us keep this momentum going!

Tomorrow is the last day to sign up to a pup home for a short stay for the holidays. Our DeKalb dogs have been waiting so patiently for a little holiday magic. The kind that only comes from a loving home.

Here are just eight pups to consider:
Valcator, Wanda, Tiana, Griddles, Toki, Prose, Priscilla, and Carla each have something special to give. Sweetness. Laughter. Snuggles. Gentle walks. Big smiles. Soft hearts. Everything a family could hope for this Pawlidays season.

If you’ve been thinking about giving a pup a short break from shelter life. These wonderful dogs deserve to spend the Pawlidays wrapped in love, not waiting behind kennel doors.
