Our furry crew is available in a variety of makes, models, colors, sizes, and energy levels. Some are cuddle experts, some are professional treat inspectors, and some are still determining whether the vacuum cleaner is a government conspiracy.

It was an honor to not only speak, but also to represent Cherokee County and the Cherokee County Animal Shelter at this year’s Alabama Animal Control Association Conference.

We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to share about our shelter, connect with others across the state, and represent the hard work being done in our community every single day.

🐾 NOW HIRING — Cherokee County Animal Shelter | Centre, Alabama 🐾

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is currently accepting applications for an Animal Care Worker.

Do you love animals?
Do you enjoy helping the public?
Can you function under pressure while a cat judges you from across the room and a beagle screams because another beagle looked at him funny?

Perfect. You may qualify.

This position includes:
🐶 Feeding and caring for shelter animals
🧼 Cleaning kennels and shelter areas
📞 Answering phones and assisting the public
🐾 Helping with adoptions and animal intake
🚑 Assisting with transport and daily shelter operations
🦴 Providing proper care and attention to animals in our custody

Now for the honest part…

Is it rewarding?
Absolutely. Watching an animal go to a good home makes the tough days worth it.

Is it fun?
Sometimes. Especially when the puppies are in a good mood and nobody has pooped in a water bowl.

Does it stink?
Violently. Every morning. Every afternoon. Sometimes spiritually.

Can it be chaotic?
Yes. One minute you’re helping somebody adopt their new best friend… the next you’re trying to catch a husky that has somehow learned how to open doors.

Can it be dangerous?
Absolutely. We work with scared animals, aggressive animals, and occasionally people who think animals should be treated humanely is “government overreach.”

You will:
✔️ Be covered in fur
✔️ Learn smells you didn’t know existed
✔️ Develop the reflexes of a ninja
✔️ Say “WHO DID THIS?” at least once per shift

But you’ll also become part of a team that works hard, laughs hard, and genuinely cares about the animals and people in this community.
