So looking at my current puppy, and after speaking to someone newer to the breed today, I felt a need to remind myself how far our dogs come from the whelping box to fully mature. Sometimes I forget those gawky in-between stages.

I have assembled a head study of one of the slowest to mature but nicest headpiece that I have had the pleasure to share my home with. Kenai is now 8y old at least physically mature, but his head did not stop broadening until he was 6y. Today he gets a bath and I will try to make him pose for a current photo and add it later today..

These photos are in chronological order to give a nice study of head development and maturity. Also gives some idea of how ear and head position can completely change the look. Malamutes use their ears more than vocalization to communicate so expression will naturally change with ear position. I post this mostly as reassurance for myself to be patient, but also for those newer to the breed as you look at puppies don't overlook the mature dogs in those lines as they are your best window to the future.

I have assembled a head study of one of the slowest to mature but nicest headpiece that I have had the pleasure to share my home with. Kenai is now 9y old and certainly fully mature, but his head did not stop broadening until he was 6y.

Dates/ages are estimated in captions, for some reason FB will not let me caption today's photos. Last few are from today, for size reference the sunflowers above his head are wider than my palm and my kennel sign is 30" wide.

Patience is a virtue!

So, I guess it has been worth the trip to Harrisburg. So far we are halfway through the show circuit and Brio has won Best of Breed 3 of 4 shows and Grand Champion Select one show. He has won the OH Working group once and placed 3rd in the working group for the Working Group Specialty.

My dog show friends know that we have been working hard and traveling far to obtain Best in Specialty Show (BISS, piloted expertly by Tim Terella). We have come close many times with multiple BOS at specialties and multiple breed wins at supported entry shows in conjunction with specialties shows.

FINALLY! I can say:
Say hello to:

BISS, Multiple BIS-OH, GCHS, NOHS-P Edgend's Allegro Con Brio RI, FDC

As an added bonus, looks like Brio is soon to be a three time AMCA Top 20 dog, racking up 108 additional breed points so far this week. Way to go my silly silly boy!

Thank you to all the have helped me to stay sane this week. Much love to you all! Professional photos to come.
