The Humane Society of Houston County is a 100% donation-funded and volunteer-based organization dedicated to the rescue and welfare of animals in our community. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving the citizens and animals of Houston County, Georgia. Our volunteers work tirelessly to educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering, micro-chipping and responsible

We want nothing more than to save as many homeless animals as we can and find them wonderful forever families. Hi there, world! I’m Waddles, and I am here to tell you that I am HAP HAP HAP HAP HAPPY! 🐾✨
​I’m a 5 ½-year-old spayed Terrier Mix, and let me tell you a secret: I am a total SURVIVOR! I’ve been hit by a car twice, but you know what? Absolutely nothing keeps my tail from wagging. I am a little bit disabled—one of my back legs doesn't have any function, my other back leg isn't 100%, and my hips aren't great—but I promise I don't let that slow down my spirit one single bit!
​Right now, I am Heartworm positive, but there's great news! My wonderful friends at Westmoreland and Slappey Animal Hospital are providing all of my treatments! 🏥 I’m currently on a 30-day doxycycline regimen. Around the end of September, I'll get my first injection, which means I'll have to go on strict rest. Please don't let that scare you, though—it just gives us the perfect excuse to snuggle up, bond, and really get to know one another! 🥰
​A few more fun facts about me:
​I am a very good girl: I am fully house trained, potty trained, AND kennel trained! 🏆
​I have great taste: I absolutely love toys, and I am obsessed with bones—especially deer antlers! 🦌🦴
​The only thing missing from my wonderful life is YOU. All I truly want is my very own home and a family to love!

Our volunteers spend their valuable time updating this page and trying to keep the spammers and scammers at bay. Time that is really better spent with the animals. We apologize for the "alumni" and "soft reminder" comments that tag you all. Please know that we are doing our best here. I personally just spent over an hour going through and removing/blocking these trolls. Bear with us and know that we are handling these to the best of our ability with the time we have.❤️

Hello friends,

I would like to share with you just one of the struggles in rescue today.

We depend on volunteers to care for the pets we take in. At the Humane Society we have 2 shifts, morning and evening. We feed, clean, and exercise dogs and when we can we work on training as well. We scoop litter, feed, change bedding and offer toys and affection to kitties.

I mean, let's be honest, these pets are basically in jail here. We do what we can but without volunteers we can barely do the basics. We need help. Your help.

Do you know how to do laundry? Can you wash dishes? Are you willing to scoop p**p? Clean kennels? Give belly rubs and head scratches? If so, volunteer! We need you! The animals need you!
