Are your pets protected?

Drum roll, please! The AHS has released their new heartworm incidence map and survey. The bad news? Heartworm disease is being diagnosed nationwide. The good news? Heartworm disease is PREVENTABLE. https://bit.ly/4c8QNj2

What in the AI did Veruca Salt do on google? Actual picture of that girl (probably). Anyway, the google bots can't handle the truth, so here it comes:

First and foremost, we want to emphasize that we do not tolerate any form of aggression or threats toward our staff. We were forced to contact authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

We also take very seriously the claim of misdiagnosis. Veterinary medicine, particularly in emergency settings, often involves making recommendations based on presenting signs and risk factors at that moment in time. It is not uncommon for findings to evolve, improve, or appear differently once additional diagnostics are performed at a referral center. A differing assessment does not automatically indicate negligence or misconduct.

We are sorry for your experience. You were recommended to go to a full service ER and refused. Diagnostics were performed with your primary vet and needed to be done at ER, so we didn't want you to be charged three times. We are glad you took your pet for the full evaluation recommended. After reviewing the camera footage, we see the doctor sat on the floor with you and your pet carefully explaining what was going on and reasons you could be seeing changes in her condition. She went over the information thoroughly and you seemed to express understanding, however, we then had to go over the information again with your parent.

During the doctor's examination, there was pus coming from your dog's v***a with a small amount of blood mixed in. This is caused by a uterine infection called a pyometra, a preventable condition. When the infection is open and draining, no further diagnostic is indicated for confirmation. Additional testing can evaluate the severity of the condition, but there is not always a large accumulation within the body visible radiographically if the contaminant is leaking out. This can also skew lab work. The diagnostics are for surgical planning. We were very clear that we are not a surgical facility. Since you were not sure about next steps, the doctor offered you antibiotics and told you that your pet was stable, but at high risk. The doctor called multiple facilities to give you pricing options. When the last facility responded and the cost was relayed, you began yelling that veterinarians are only in it for the money. Although the doctor had explained that antibiotics for the meantime were the best option while you made decisions, you no longer expressed understanding and said it was pointless to treat your pet. We have no benefit by recommending your pet have things done elsewhere. We price shopped for you so that you could be an informed consumer spending money with someone else and provided a low cost option of antibiotic outpatient care in the meanwhile.

Among the many other inaccuracies, you were checked in at 4:27PM and checked out at 7:22PM. You were checked on many many times, given water, and were given the option of opening your room door for cooler airflow as we know that not everyone is most comfortable at the same temperature as others. You were asked about your comfort level from a point of kindness as you hadn't seemed to be concerned with the temperature of your room before being asked by staff. A ten second birthday song was indeed sung after you spoke with a doctor, were assured your pet was stable, and your pet was placed with you to minimize stress. We will not apologize for celebrating our team--the team of whom you verbally attacked three members and physically threatened one, inciting a call to the police to have you escorted off property and trespassed. The police report will be available in 2-3 business days.

Having spoken with the facilities that you saw before and after us, we can confirm that your information is much less than truthful. However, I think we can all agree that your pet's recovery is what is important and that how you treat people matters.

Lots of repeat calls tonight, must be baby squirrel season. Oh no!
Just a reminder, we do not see wildlife (especial high risk rabies vectors: raccoons, bats, foxes, and skunks)
Also, microchip scanning is always free! We just cannot keep any animals you find.
