Think you can put your horsemanship to the test without your stirrups? We’re inviting riders of 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒔, 𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒔 to join us for this FREE online challenge!

🐴 Ride the released pattern completely without stirrups.

🐎📚 WHAT CAN YOU LEARN IN 75 MINUTES?

At Smokin’ Rose Ranch Horsemanship Academy, quite a lot!

Our 75-minute group lessons combine three essential elements of equestrian education:

🐴 Riding Instruction — Developing correct position, effective communication, and biomechanically sound riding skills.

💪 Rider Fitness — Building the strength, stability, balance, and body awareness necessary to become an effective rider.

📚 Equine Science — Understanding horse anatomy, behavior, movement, health, and care.

Because becoming a knowledgeable horseman requires more than time in the saddle.

Our lessons are designed to develop the whole rider — physically, mentally, and academically.

We’re not just building riding skills. We’re building educated horsemen.

I work with so many horse and rider duos where at least one of them is tight, tense, anxious or stressed.

Truth is, it’s usually us.

This is why I created the Stable Yoga Academy - it give you the framework, the steps and the options to calm both you and your horse in any situation.

Now, I’m bringing in person classes back to my barn for anyone who wants the whole farm experience. Chicken yoga and all!

This is a unique, beginner friendly, slow paced class where you will take home the tools to calm your nerves, sleep better, truly feel what’s happening in your body and have a better sense of self.

These classes will be small, preregistration only and weather permitting.

The level of nonsense we expect our horses to tolerate… 😂🐴

Leading a horse out the truck window with nothing but a piece of twine around his neck.

Because a broke horse doesn’t just know how to respond to cues—he knows how to handle our ridiculous ideas with patience, trust, and a whole lot of grace. 🤠

True horsemanship is about building a horse that can handle the unexpected.

When a horse has spent months or even years living in a heightened state of alertness, safety doesn't suddenly become familiar simply because their circumstances have changed.

The nervous system learns through experience. And when those experiences have repeatedly involved fear, pain, uncertainty, isolation or an inability to escape uncomfortable situations, the body can begin to anticipate danger even when no immediate threat is present.

For some horses, being constantly on guard has become their normal.

They scan their surroundings, struggle to settle, react to the smallest changes, find it difficult to rest deeply or become overwhelmed by situations that other horses navigate with relative ease.

And sometimes, even when we begin to change their environment, offer more freedom, companionship, consistency and opportunities for connection, those responses don't disappear overnight.

Because the nervous system needs time to learn something different.

A horse who has spent years anticipating danger needs repeated experiences of safety. Experiences where their boundaries are respected, their needs are met, their communication is heard and nothing unpleasant follows.

And gradually, those experiences can begin to reshape what their body expects from the world.

We need to understand that healing isn't always visible in dramatic transformations.

Sometimes it's a horse who finally rests without constantly watching their surroundings. A horse who becomes curious again. Who begins to explore, play, connect with others or simply graze without repeatedly interrupting themselves to check for danger.

These seemingly small moments can represent enormous changes in how a horse is experiencing life.

And I think this is where compassion and patience become so important.

We cannot expect a nervous system shaped by years of survival to suddenly recognise safety simply because we believe we have provided it.

Safety is not something we can convince a horse of. It is something they need the opportunity to experience, over and over again, until peace begins to feel familiar.

And every horse deserves that opportunity.

At Smokin’ Rose Ranch Riding Academy, our instruction is backed by more than 30 years of hands-on experience in the equine industry, training under some of the area’s top horsemen and trainers.

Our lead instructor holds certifications through the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA):

⭐ Level 3 Western
⭐ Level 2 English

These credentials reflect a commitment to safe, knowledgeable, and effective riding instruction.

But experience and certifications are only part of the equation.

We believe a great instructor should be able to explain not only HOW to perform a skill, but WHY it works and how it affects the horse.

Education matters. Experience matters. The quality of your instruction matters.

Every movement a rider makes influences the horse beneath them.

A shifted hip, an unbalanced seat, or tension through the rider’s body can change how a horse moves, responds, and carries itself.

At Smokin’ Rose Ranch Horsemanship Academy, we teach biomechanical riding — helping students understand how their position, balance, and movement directly affect their horse.

Our riders learn to use their bodies with intention, developing clearer communication, better balance, and a more harmonious partnership.
