🐴 RELIC’S 90-DAY BOOT CAMP: COMPLETE! 🐴

Relic officially finished his 90 days of Boot Camp!

Is he perfect? Nope. There’s still room for improvement, but I am incredibly happy with how far this horse has come.

When Relic arrived, it took nearly an hour just to unload him from the trailer. His hooves were severely overgrown because standing safely for the farrier had been a struggle. When he felt pressure, his answer was to run through it—and he was pretty convinced there was a boogeyman hiding in every corner. 😂

Relic didn’t need someone to overpower him.

He needed time. Patience. Consistency. And someone willing to listen to what his body language was saying.

Over the last 90 days, we worked on building his confidence, teaching him how to respond to pressure instead of escaping it, and helping him understand that he could look to his handler for guidance when something felt scary.

And little by little, the worried horse who arrived started making better choices.

There is still work to be done—and that’s okay. Good horse training isn’t about creating a “finished” horse in 90 days. It’s about giving that horse a stronger foundation and the tools to keep progressing.

Relic reminded me once again why I believe so strongly in working on the horse’s timeline, not ours.

Sometimes the biggest training breakthroughs happen when we stop asking, “How do I make him do this?” and start asking, “What is he trying to tell me?”

Good job, Relic.❤️🐴…….
And of course he had to lay in a manure pile before going home 🤦‍♀️

🥚🏆 Solei — our reigning Egg & Spoon Champion!

And can we talk about that trot?! 😍 This gelding has such a gorgeous, floaty way of going.

Last lesson of the week, and what a beautiful way to end it. ❤️

I got to spend the evening working with this great group of young ladies, building confidence, improving their horsemanship, and enjoying some pretty incredible horses along the way.

There are days when I look around at the arena, the horses, the mountains, and the kids I get to teach and think… I really am blessed to call this my job. 🐴❤️

Another great week at Smokin Rose Riding Academy in the books. 🌹

🥚🥄 Sometimes the best riding lessons don’t look like riding lessons.

Today’s challenge: the egg-and-spoon test.

The goal isn’t just to keep the egg from falling. It gives the rider immediate feedback about what her body and hands are doing.

To keep that egg balanced, she has to:
🐴 Engage and stabilize through her core
🐴 Follow the horse’s movement instead of fighting it
🐴 Keep her hands quiet and independent
🐴 Develop better balance and body awareness

Instead of me constantly saying, “Steady your hands,” the egg tells her the second she loses that stability. 😂

Good riding isn’t about sitting perfectly still—it’s about learning to move with the horse while keeping your aids quiet, balanced, and intentional.

And yes… dropping the egg is part of the lesson. 🥚😂

🐴 Today’s Adventure: Hoof Casting Holly!

Holly has been struggling to grow a strong, healthy hoof capsule after a bout of laminitis this past winter. Today, we tried something new to give those feet a little extra help.

We cast her hoof with plenty of soft cushioning underneath, giving her added support and comfort while encouraging healthier hoof growth.

With laminitis recovery, sometimes progress isn’t about pushing forward—it’s about creating the comfort and support the horse needs so the hoof has time to rebuild.

Now we’ll watch how Holly responds and continue making adjustments based on what she tells us. ❤️

Here’s to happier feet, healthier hooves, and another step forward for Holly. 🌹🐴

Toes in the water.
Ass in the sand.
Not a horse in sight. 😂🌴

We’ll be back in the barn and ready to roll on August 20! 🐴

Thank you for giving us a little time to unplug — we’ll see you back at the ranch! 🤎
