We are so proud to offer Elite’s He’s a Hottie, affectionately known as “Hottie” to a new home. This handsome boy certainly lives up to his name and has been one of our favorites for years.

Hottie has so many qualities that I love, but his mind is our favorite quality. I can’t tell you how many cold winter mornings I’ve thrown a leg over Hottie after he’s been sitting for weeks and he’s plodded off like he’s been under saddle for a lifetime. Or, how many times I’ve had him on the trail when a moment of chaos breaks out for one reason or another, and he’s stayed calm and collected. A solid mind is a quality that cannot be trained, and it is one of the many reasons that I have loved owning Hottie so much.

Hottie stands a solid 15.1 and is an absolutely spectacular looking blue roan. He does not have any white markings. His roan coloring is bright, loud, and draws attention wherever he goes. When he was in our front pasture, people would stop daily to take pictures of him and ask questions. He’s a horse that really stands out and draws people to him. Hottie is also an outlier from a build perspective for a Rocky. His build is strong and he has great presence about him.

Hottie is registered Rocky Mountain and has fantastic breeding. We purchased Hottie from well-known Rocky breeder, Southern Elite Stables, as a yearling. He certainly did not disappoint. Both Hottie’s sire and dam were successful show horses. Hottie’s sire is well-known stallion, Elite’s Rockstar. Rockstar was the 2022 Show Pleasure International Grand Champion. Rockstar is also known for being a very versatile trail and ranch horse with a hair gene like no other. Hottie seems to have his dam and sire’s hair gene. I started braiding his mane earlier this year and it has already grown several inches. Hottie’s mane and tail are thick and gorgeous.

As far as movement goes, Hottie is very naturally gaited and smooth. He has multiple gears to his gaits. Hottie can also canter on both leads. He is a lot of fun to ride.

Hottie has been extensively ridden on the trail. We have ridden him all over southern Utah. In the winter, we tend to ride in the desert, and in the summer, we tend to ride in the mountains, so Hottie has experience in various types of terrain. He’s been packed on, high-lined, hobbled and has done many overnight camping trips. He’s also been exposed to a variety of different stimuli that you would expect to encounter on the trail including wildlife, traffic, water, etc.

Hottie also has an outstanding handle. He neck reins, side passes, moves off your legs, stops on your seat, moves his shoulders and hindquarters on cue. He is light in the bridle and responsive to ride.

If Hottie sounds like the horse you have been looking for, please feel free to give me a call. I’m happy to chat about him in more detail with you and answer any questions that you may have to help gauge whether he may be the right fit for you. You’re also more than welcome to come meet and ride him!

We look forward to pairing you with the horse of a lifetime!

This past weekend we did a pack trip in the Teton’s in Wyoming. The beauty was surreal. Parts of this area were recently on fire. The fire is mostly contained, so the roads in this area have been opened up again for public use, but you can still see smoke from the small remaining fires in the background. We didn’t use the horses as extensively as we usually do on these types of trips, but they still logged just under 20 miles total. Sure hope to make it back here again one day.

🏡👀 - Sarah is a 9 year old registered Missouri Fox Trotter mare. She is sorrel sabino and stands 15.1. She’s sired by Gypsy’s Major Yellow L. and out of a Southern Sunrise/Flash’s Dreamaker mare.

I have ridden many, many gaited horses and she is, without a doubt, one of the absolute SMOOTHEST. Her gait is automatic for her, meaning you don’t need to know anything to get her to gait. Her gait ranges from 5-8 miles per hour. She also canters both leads and has one of the most comfortable canters too. We are virtually motionless on her back when we ride her - both in her gait and canter. Ridiculously smooth is the best way to describe her.

She is easy to catch, quiet on the ground and under saddle. More whoa than go. We bought her to use for breeding, but didn’t get around to breeding her this year.

She sat most of this summer, but we recently put her back to work with no issues. She rode right off and picked up her gait and canter seamlessly. She’s a super nice, easy to get along with girl. Given I’m currently pregnant, we are wanting to slim down our herd a bit, otherwise I would never part with this gem. You will be hard pressed to find another as smooth as her.

Pali loaded up and headed to her new home in California as of this morning. This was the last picture I took as I was scrambling to get her cleaned up and ready to go last night. It was tough to see her go… I know I’ll never own another Rocky like her. I feel blessed that we were able to own and love her the past 6 years. She is absolutely one of a kind.

While riding Monkey out a few days ago, I stumbled across this… Was it a perfect coincidence that these dropped the way they did, or did I stumble across someone’s goody pile that they were hoping to circle back to one day?!

My Story

My name is Kayla. I sell a few specially trained, gaited horses each year. I used to get frustrated when I’d be looking to buy a horse and find that oftentimes they were misrepresented, trained poorly or even unsafe. I made it a goal to never sell a horse until they were trained to the level I expect out of my own horses.
