What‘s the quality you value most in a horse?

This is a simple video, but it is one of my favorite videos of Bilbo because it reveals so much about him.

This was his first time ever seeing tunnels like this. The tunnels run underneath a very busy freeway. It’s dark, claustrophobic, and loud, with the sound and vibration of the constant traffic overhead. He was being ridden solo, so he’s not leaning on the confidence of another horse. Bilbo gaited right up to the tunnel, entered it without hardly changing his tempo, and calmly went through it.

Training and exposure absolutely matter. They build confidence and teach a horse how to handle the world. But every once in a while, you come across a horse that just has an exceptional mind to begin with. They’re naturally sensible, willing, trusting, and able to process something new without reacting to it.

When I say Bilbo is one of the best-minded horses I’ve ever worked with, this is a good example of what I mean.

To me, the quality of a horse’s mind is the most important quality he can have, and Bilbo definitely has a fantastic mind!❤️

The kind of horse that will make you look twice. Rocky looks like a dream, and he moves even better. Gave him a bath today, and boy does he sure shine up nice! Rocky is a Missouri Fox Trotter gelding, and he is also one to watch for in the coming months if you are looking for a smooth trail partner. We will post much more info and plenty of video soon. ☺️

Bilbo in his everyday clothes. He’s the PERFECT combination of drop dead pretty, dog gentle, and talented. Like, is he even real?! He has the brightest white mane and tail, and his body stays so dark even in the summer. He’s proof that unicorns do exist. He’ll be one to watch for this July/August.

Puzzle is a four year old black and white tobiano registered Missouri Fox Trotter gelding. Puzzle is absolutely GORGEOUS, with the most unique cat tracks and markings. He stands a solid 14.2- 14.3. He is built very stocky, and will take up enough leg that just about anyone will love his size.

Under saddle, Puzzle has about as good of a foundation as you could ask for on a horse his age. (Seriously, the dude has a great resume already.) Puzzle loves the trail, and he’s been ridden solo a bunch. He’s comfortable riding alone. He’s also been ridden with others. He’s surefooted and good in technical terrain. He has a curious personality, and is always up for an adventure. He’s been exposed to plenty of traffic, cows, water crossings, wildlife and other things you’d expect to encounter on the trail. Puzzle has also been roped off of and branded on. He’s drug calves and worked cattle. Branding cattle can be a high stress environment, but he handled it like a champ. He enjoys a challenge, and is for just about anything. He learns and adapts very quickly.

Under saddle, Puzzle knows the Clinton Anderson Fundamentals. He flexes, moves off your legs, moves his hindquarters and forequarters, stops with a light touch, and backs nicely. He also has a nice little gait.

On the ground, Puzzle is a gentleman to handle. He knows his groundwork and is easy to work with. Moves any part of his body when asked, leads like a total gentleman, and is good with his feet. Puzzle enjoys attention and stands well to be pampered.

Puzzle’s sire is well-known west coast stallion, D.M. Cherokee’s Witch Doctor C. His dam is a daughter of Pure Luck.
