🐾 Why Does My Pet Need a Doctor’s Exam Before Vaccines? 🐾

Meet adorable Vada! 💙 Like all of our new patients at Noah’s Ark, Vada received a doctor exam before receiving vaccines. We often get asked why an exam is required, especially if a pet was seen recently. Here’s why this step is so important:

Vaccines are considered a medical treatment, and your pet’s health can change quickly—especially puppies and kittens who grow and develop rapidly. Even if your pet was examined just a few weeks ago, our veterinarians need to ensure they are healthy enough to safely receive vaccines on the day they’re administered.

During this brief exam, your veterinarian will:
✔️ Check your pet’s heart and lungs
✔️ Evaluate temperature, hydration, and overall health
✔️ Look for signs of illness that may not be obvious at home
✔️ Assess growth and development in young pets
✔️ Discuss any concerns you’ve noticed since the last visit
✔️ Confirm the vaccine plan is still appropriate for your pet

Administering vaccines to a pet that is sick, running a fever, or experiencing another medical issue may not provide the best protection and could potentially complicate their care. A pre- intial vaccine exam helps us catch concerns early and ensures we’re providing the safest, most effective care possible.

Welcome to the Noah’s Ark family, Cooper & Hobbes! 🐾💖

These adorable 14-week-old Sphynx kittens made their first visit full of curiosity, cuddles, and just a little bit of kitten mischief. 😸✨

Did you know? Sphynx cats may not have fur, but they still need regular skin care, ear cleanings, and routine veterinary visits to stay healthy. Because they don’t have a fluffy coat to absorb oils, their skin can get oily faster than other cats. Early wellness exams help us monitor growth, nutrition, skin health, and make sure kittens get started on the right paw for a long healthy life! 🩺🐱

And yes… naps are absolutely part of the treatment plan. 😴💕
