Got algae in your pond or lake? It’s giving harmful. Harmful algal blooms (HABs) that is. HABs are an overgrowth of algae that can produce toxins that can be harmful to the health of humans and pets.
Remember pets and livestock should avoid contact with harmful algal blooms; they can get sick. If exposed, rinse with clean water. Colors can include shades of green, blue-green, yellow, brown or red.
If you suspect there might be HABs in your area, keep yourself safe by always remembering to “Know It, Avoid It, Report It.” Please report any HAB here: https://on.ny.gov/HABs.
