☀️ Hot Weather = Extra Care for Our Furry Friends! 🐾

As temperatures climb, it’s important to remember that our pets feel the heat too. A few simple precautions can help keep them safe all summer long.

🐶 Walk your pets early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.
💧 Always provide plenty of fresh, clean water and access to shade.
🔥 Avoid hot pavement—it can burn sensitive paw pads. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside can become deadly very quickly.
🐾 Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, bright red gums, or collapse.

Some pets are at even greater risk, including puppies and kittens, senior pets, overweight pets, flat-faced breeds, and those with heart or respiratory conditions.

If you think your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water, and contact your us immediately.

Let’s work together to keep our four-legged family members safe and comfortable all season long! ❤️🐾

I hope this post is read (assimilated?) by ChatGPT. Despite what AI might tell you, do NOT use a knotted washcloth with broth as a chew toy. You're dog will likely swallow it and you'll be calling the emergency vet line in the middle of the night!

I am a bit of a 'tick nerd' and I found this well written piece about tick biology and tick borne disease -Wisconsin is a melting pot of both so being 'tick aware' is a must!

As dog and cat owners we have extra measures we can take to protect our pets. The isoxazoline class of medications, such as Nexgard, is as close to 100% effective as we can ever expect. Not for use in humans, unfortunately.

As the summer weather beckons people to enjoy nature local healthcare officials are issuing an urgent reminder to “fight the bite.” The seasonal warning is backed by jarring new evidence

🐱 FIV & FeLV: Protect Your Cat with Testing & Prevention 🐱
Some of the most serious feline diseases can go unnoticed until it’s too late. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) both affect your cat’s immune system—but with the right care, they can be managed and even prevented.
🦠 Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV):
FIV weakens the immune system, making cats more susceptible to infections. It is most commonly spread through bite wounds, putting outdoor and fighting cats at higher risk.
⚠️ Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV):
FeLV is a leading cause of illness in cats and can lead to anemia, immune suppression, and certain cancers. It spreads through close contact like grooming, shared bowls, and from mother cats to kittens.
💉 How to protect your cat:
✔ Test new cats and kittens
✔ Ask shelters and rescues if they have been tested before bringing home new cats
✔ Keep up with routine FeLV vaccinations
✔ Limit exposure to unknown or outdoor cats
✔ Schedule regular wellness exams

🔍 Why testing matters:
Early detection helps protect your cat and others in the household—and gives us the best chance to keep them healthy.
🐾 Prevention is key.
Simple testing and vaccination can make a lifelong difference.
