James Douglas

James L. Douglas, 95, of Cambridge, passed into eternity on Monday, August 31, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and farmer, Jim was born on March 1, 1931, in Belfont, West Virginia, the son of Leland Douglas and Susie (Nottingham) Douglas.

On May 18, 1952, James married the love of his life, Shirley Jean (Gray) Douglas. Together they shared 70 years of marriage before Shirley's passing on September 3, 2022.

He proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps having served during the Korean War. A lifelong farmer, he also served as a bus driver for the Cambridge City School System, and later worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation, and then township trustee in his retirement. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean (Gray) Douglas, two brothers, William Gardner Douglas and Aaron Douglas; a sister, Lemoine McKahan; infant grandson, Paul Andrew Douglas; and daughter-in-law, Roberta Lee (Gray) Douglas.

He is survived by three sons, David M. (Vanessa) Douglas of Gambier, Jay B. Douglas of Cambridge, and Scott E. (Anne) Douglas of Rocky River; a daughter, Janet Sue (Jeff) Brown of Fort Mill SC; eleven grandchildren, Zachary (Sydney) and Emily Douglas, Colin and Tyler Brown, Keath (Jordan) and Austin Douglas, Elizabeth (Asher) Silvey, Wade, Rebekah, Sarah and Grace Douglas; and six great-grandchildren, Violet, James, Evelyn, Hattie and Opal Douglas and Phoebe Silvey.

A longtime member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church, Jim faithfully served as a trustee, elder, and volunteer; and showed his faith through acts of kindness, generosity, and a willingness to lend a hand.

More than anything, Jim loved his family. He shared an extraordinary marriage with Shirley Jean (Gray) Douglas, with whom he loved to harmonize and sing together. Together they built a family that became the center of their world. He cherished family gatherings, treasured time with family at Camp Presmont, and found great joy in simply being surrounded by those he loved. Jim had a gift for making ordinary moments memorable. He loved a good card game, a country song on the radio, traveling, and cheering from the stands at Cambridge High School and Muskingum University sporting events and band concerts. He was a storyteller at heart, sharing tales that brought laughter, wisdom, and often a little mischief to every gathering. His singing, his stories, his smile, funny quotes and his warm presence will remain cherished memories for all who knew him.

To his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and neighbors, Jim taught by example what it meant to work hard, keep your word, and care for your family. His legacy lives on not only in the generations that follow him, but in the values, he passed along and the lives he touched. Though his family mourns his passing, they find comfort in a life well lived and in the countless memories he leaves behind. His was a life rich in purpose, family, and love, and he will be deeply missed.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 3PM-6PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with the funeral service the following day, Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 11AM with Pastor Kirk Gable officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hermon Cemetery, Cambridge, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.

Georgia Albert

Georgia J. Albert, 85, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Cardinal Place.

She was born June 2, 1941, in Wellston, daughter of the late Harold Cahoon and Freda (Rawlins) Cahoon.

Mrs. Albert retired from the Joint Training Partnership JTPA Program. She also retired from the Children’s Dyslexia Center of Southeast Ohio/Masonic Learning Center of Cambridge. Georgia enjoyed doing genealogy, cooking, reading, was an avid cat lover, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Albert attended Christ Our Light Parish.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Albert, who died March 15, 2012, and whom she married on May 27, 1961; and her sister, Diane Grim.

She is survived by two sons, John (Samantha) Albert II of New Concord and Harold Albert of Cambridge; two daughters, Julie (Ronnie) Sposato of North Port, FL and Jennifer (Matt) Delik of Cambridge; a brother, Thomas (Rebecca) Cahoon of Cambridge; one sister, Billie Otunga of Elgin IL; two grandchildren, Whittney (Nathanial) Nichols of Cambridge and Samantha Delik of Cambridge; and six great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 5PM-8PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with the funeral service the following day, Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11AM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with Father Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery, Westland Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Georgias name to St. Benedict School, 220 N. 7th Street, Cambridge, Ohio 43725.

Trent Edward Quarles

Trent Edward Quarles, 64, of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at SEORMC.

Trent was born on April 20, 1962, in Cambridge, a son of the late William Quarles.

Trent worked at Kennedy’s Bakery for over 20 years where he later retired. He was a homebody.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Tammy Clinger.

Trent is survived by his wife, Alice Marlene (Cline) Quarles, his stepdaughter, Charity Rambo, his brothers, Tommy Quarles and Timmy Quarles, his step-grandchild, Lawrence James Rawlins and many family and friends.

Bradly Allen Gordon

Bradly Allen Gordon, 39, of Barnesville, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Bradly was born on December 28, 1986, in Weirton, WV, a son of Dale Allen Gordon Sr. and Teresa Lorraine Jackson.

Bradly is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Susie Woodburn, maternal grandparents, John and Edna Jackson, and a brother, Daniel Gordon.

Bradley is survived by his parents, Dale Gordon Sr. of Barnesville and Teresa Jackson of Weirton, WV, his six daughters, Ivy, Lexi, McKenzie, Chloe, Haley and Evelyn, his brother, Tony (August) Gordon of Barnesville, Jacob Gordon of WV, Christopher Gordon of WV, and Dale Gordon Jr. of WV and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Robert J Wilhelm

Robert J. Wilhelm, age 95, passed away surrounded by family Monday, August 10, 2026, at Cardinal Place. Bob was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 3, 1930, to the late Joseph E. and Helen B. (Yahraus) Wilhelm. Bob graduated from Stivers High School in Dayton, Ohio in 1948, and served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Marine Corps, Bob attended the University of Dayton on the GI Bill and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. During this same time frame, Bob also completed a four-year apprenticeship as a Model Maker with the NCR Corp. He served in various roles and management positions for NCR before retiring in 1993 with 51 years of credited service. He was responsible for the design and production coordination of NCR's first Electronic Cash Register.

Bob has served in many volunteer positions over the years and has been the recipient of numerous community service awards. He served as the volunteer regional coordinator for the AARP Tax Aide program for over twenty years, and AARP Tax Aide preparer for thirty years and as a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board for thirty years. He served as part of a Guernsey County Team at Ground Zero providing meals and support to first responders following the 9/11 attack. He also served as the coordinator of the Salvation Army summer sack lunch program for Children at Rick serving in excess of two thousand sack lunches each summer for twenty years. As a Salvation Army volunteer Bob also served as chairman of the Share and Care program established to meet the needs of individuals and families in the Guernsey County Area. He has served in various positions for the Guernsey/ Noble/ Monroe Counties United Way including President. He served for several years as a Hospital Volunteer for the Guernsey Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio and is on the Banquet/ Auction committee for the Living Word Outdoor Drama. He served as chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Operating Levy of the Golden Rule School. Bob has served as a Deacon, Elder, Trustee Properties Chairman and President of the Corporation for Unity Presbyterian Church in Cambridge, Ohio.

Bob is a sixty-five-year member of The Masonic Blue Lodge in Cambridge, Ohio, fifty-year member of Scottish Rite Cambridge, Ohio and Life Member of Cambridge, Ohio Elks Club 448. He received the 2002 Person of the Year award from the Daily Jeffersonian Newspaper and the Ohio Senate, the 2004 Angel Award from the Guernsey County Senior Center, the 2005 Andrus Award for Community Service for his volunteer tax preparation work, the 2006 Civic Award from the Salvation Army, the 2007 Service Above Self Award from the Cambridge Rotary Club, the 2008 award for dedicated service to Handicapped Persons from the Guernsey County Board of Development Disabilities and the 2015 Distinguished Public Service Award from the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce.

He was inducted as a member of the Class of 2018, to the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame created in 1992 to recognize the post military achievements of outstanding Ohio veterans. Charter members of the Hall of Fame include the six Ohio Military Veterans who were elected President of the United State and all Medal of Hont recipients from Ohio. Those selected for the honor are veterans who have served their country honorably and who have continued to serve and inspire others with their deeds and accomplishments throughout their lifetime. Bob also received the 2019 Community Service Award from the 23rd Masonic District.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Lee in 1942 and Albert E. in 1945. He is survived by his current loving wife of 51 years, Patricia L. (Oakley/ Reed) Wilhelm of Cambridge, Ohio; daughter, Linda D. (Steve) Ingle of Dayton, Ohio; son, Randy L. (Julie) Wilhelm of Plain City, Ohio; son, Todd J (Anita) Wilhelm of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter Dawn E. (Barry) Ballain of Kettering, Ohio; son Samuel C. (Amy) Reed of Pickerington, Ohio; son, Robert G. (Susan) Reed of Cambridge, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren and twenty- six great- grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Thorn- Black Funeral Home, in Cambridge, Ohio, with visitation scheduled on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 5PM to 7PM at Thorn- Black Funeral Home with Masonic services at 6:30PM, and Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 10AM to 11AM in the sanctuary of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church, 725 Steubenville Ave Cambridge, Ohio 43725, with funeral services to follow at 11AM conducted by the Reverend Jeffery Bergeson. Interment will follow at Guernsey Memory Gardens in Cambridge, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge Presbyterian Church, 725 Steubenville Ave. Cambridge, Ohio 43725.

Richard "Dick" Leo Cowgill

Richard "Dick" Leo Cowgill, 91, of Cambridge, formerly of Huntsville, Al, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Dick was born February 18, 1935, in Barnesville, a son to the late Charles B and Nell (Bowen) Cowgill.

He worked for National Cash Register in Cambridge, Ohio where he worked up to a Process Engineer before transferring to Space Craft Incorporated, where he worked up through the ranks until he became a Plant Manager and retired in 2000. He continued to consulate for Space Craft Incorporated after his retirement.

Dick enjoyed camping in his travel trailers, watching sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes, and playing cards with friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara E (Gaston) Cowgill, whom he married on June 25, 1981, and who passed May 30, 2021; his brothers, William W. Cowgill, John S. Cowgill, James B. Cowgill, and Charles Cowgill; a sister, Eleanor Mason; and a good friend, Steve Kellar.

Dick is survived by his children, Christie (& John) Suchora, Jeffrey (& Cynthia) Cowgill, and Renee (& Jim Craner) Cowgill; a stepson, Don (& Rhonda) Stephan; his grandchildren, Brianne (& Bridget) Cowgill, Lorin Cowgill, Eli Owen Hubal, a step grandson, Justin Stephen; and good friends, Don and Sheila Revelle.

Per Dick's request cremation will take place at Thorn- Black Funeral Home and there will be no services. The family asks that you remember Dick for his wit, humor and loyalty to his friends and family.

Curtis Patrick Dorton

Curtis Patrick Dorton 85, of Salesville, Ohio passed away Wednesday (July 29, 2026) at The Enclave in Barnesville Ohio. He is proceeded in death by wives Linda (Standifer) Dorton 1993, Rosemary (McDonald) Dorton (2010), Diana (Yonts) Dorton (2014) and sons Curtis Patrick Dorton Jr. & Christopher Jon Dorton.

He was born November 17, 1940 in Jenkins, Ky., Son of the late Cossie Curtis and Helen (Rickets) Dorton. Brother to the late, Louis, Dean (Barbara), and Johnny (Peggy) Dorton.

Curtis worked at J&L/LTV steel in Cleveland Ohio for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, Mason, & enjoyed traveling with his late wife Diana.

He is survived by his son Scott (Eileen) of Alamogordo NM, 3 Grandchildren, Eric of Fort Worth, TX, David (Hannah) of Zwolle, LA, Rachael of Twin Falls, ID. 2 Great Grandchildren, Easton & Kosten of Zwolle, LA, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a family & friends viewing at the Thorn Black Funeral home in Quaker City Ohio on Friday, August 14th 2026 @ 10am with Burial to follow at Friends Cemetery.
