Welcome to HART, the Homeless Animal Rescue Team in Cambria, CA. We are a no-kill, cage free animal rescue and adoption center located on the beautiful Central Coast of California. HART’s mission is to rescue domestic animals in need, strays as well as cats who have lost their homes due to death or illness, and place them into good permanent homes. We also aim to eliminate unwanted surplus animals

from being born in our immediate area through our active spay/neuter programs. OUR MISSION

Our philosophy is ensuring quality of life to all living creatures, both feral and domestic. OUR HISTORY
HART was founded in 1983 by a small core of volunteers who fostered animals in their own homes. Starting with Mika (a wayward cat in a family way), HART has placed thousands of homeless animals into permanent homes through adoption and foster programs. In 2000 HART acquired its own premises by renting a former veterinarian’s office, allowing us to expand our resources in the community. Our TNR (Trap/Neuter/Release) programs have prevented countless more homeless animals. Through partnerships with educators and other rescue groups HART has helped to develop an effective Humane Education program that has been shared with local schools and communities. In 2012 HART purchased its current location at 2638 Main Street. For over 30 years the overwhelming constant characteristic of HART has been a team of volunteers dedicated to the welfare of the animals, first and always.

Bug and Beetle are two beautiful sisters with gorgeous green eyes and personalities to match. Bug is a lovely dilute tortie, while Beetle is a beautiful soft gray—and both are sweet, playful girls who love attention, adventure, and having fun. Most of all, they adore each other. Whether they’re playing, cuddling, or simply relaxing side by side, these two are happiest together.

Loki is a handsome buff ginger and white kitten with a mischievous sparkle in his eye and endless kitten energy. His favorite pastime is sneaking up on his unsuspecting kitten friends before launching into an adorable pounce that almost always turns into a lively wrestling match. Whether he's chasing toys, exploring every corner, or plotting his next playful ambush, Loki brings laughter wherever he goes.

When the adventures wind down, Loki is ready to curl up for a well-earned nap before his next round of kitten antics. He would love to be adopted with a playful friend from HART so he'll always have a buddy to chase, wrestle, and grow up with.

🐾 August was an AWESOME month for the cats and kittens at HART! 🐾

19 cats and kittens found their forever homes in August! 💕 That includes 16 kittens, with 10 of them adopted in pairs—and several others heading home to feline friends who were already waiting for them. We couldn’t be happier to see these little ones begin their lives with families of their own!

And the kittens weren’t the only ones celebrating! One adult and two seniors found their people, too—and those were some BIG wins. ❤️

Linny got a second chance after being found at Linn’s Restaurant begging for food. After a huge HART/community effort to get him the help he needed, Linny finally found a warm and loving home. What a perfect ending to his story! 🧡

13-year-old Chloe came to HART after circumstances forced her family to move somewhere she couldn’t go. She had a very tough time adjusting to shelter life and spent most of her days hiding. Then someone took a chance on her. Chloe finally found the loving home she so deserved. 🥹❤️

9-year-old Lydia also got a much-needed and well-deserved home. When she arrived at HART, X-rays revealed a healed broken jaw, a piece of metal beneath her eye, and a pellet in her shoulder—evidence that she had sadly been shot with a pellet gun. She also needed four teeth extracted, and while she was under sedation, the veterinary team removed the pellet. Through it all, Lydia proved herself to be a survivor. And in August, someone chose this resilient girl to be their best friend. ❤️

Cleo is an adorable black kitten with a playful spirit and a heart full of love. Whether she's chasing toys, tumbling with her kitten friends, or curling up for a cozy nap, Cleo brings joy wherever she goes.

One of Cleo's eyes has some scarring from an infection she battled when she was very young. While she may not have perfect vision in that eye, it doesn't slow her down one bit! She plays, explores, and enjoys life just like any other kitten.

As with all young kittens, Cleo thrives on feline companionship. She would love to be adopted with a playful kitten friend from HART or join a home that already has a friendly, playful feline companion to romp, wrestle, and snuggle with. Meet 5-year-od Paloma and 7-year-old Tasha, two beautiful sweethearts who formerly shared a home and still turn to each other for familiar comfort at HART. Paloma and Tasha have stunning Torbie patchwork coats of tabby stripes and swirls, warm ginger tortie patches, and touches of white. Both girls can be a little quiet and shy while they get their bearings, but they’re sweet, affectionate souls who are learning to trust and blossom.

💗 They would love nothing more than to find a peaceful, patient home together where they can settle in side by side, continue giving each other confidence, and share their love with their people. If you have room in your heart for two beautiful torbies and a very special friendship, Paloma and Tasha would love to meet you! 🐱🐱✨

These two adorable kittens are part of a whole new crew of little personalities who have recently arrived, and we can’t wait for you to meet them! From playful pounces to sweet snuggles, there are so many wonderful new faces waiting to be discovered. 💕🐱

And August is the perfect time to adopt! And all month long, our kittens are TWO FOR ONE! 🐾💕 It’s the perfect time to bring home a pair of new best friends.

You're the person we’ve been waiting for. 💕

Jake and Neytiri are two playful siblings from HART’s Avatar Litter, and these little adventurers are ready for their next journey! Jake is the brave, curious explorer who loves chasing toys, while Neytiri is an energetic little huntress who loves playing and pouncing as if she’s exploring her very own Pandora forest. 🌿🐾 Together, they romp, wrestle, explore, and then curl up for a cozy kitten nap.

These two would love to journey through life together, growing up side by side and keeping each other company along the way. And August is the purrfect time to bring this pair home—HART’s kitten adoption special is 2-for-1! 💙

Lydia’s story is one of resilience and quiet strength. 🦋 When she arrived at HART, it was clear she had already endured more than any cat should have to. Medical exams and X-rays revealed a healed broken lower jaw, a small piece of metal lodged beneath her eye, and a pellet in her shoulder, indicating she had sadly been shot with a pellet gun. 💔

It was determined that she needed a dental procedure as well, revealing that she also needed four teeth extracted. While she was under sedation, the veterinary team was additionally able to remove an unknown mass and the pellet from her shoulder. And yet, through it all, Lydia has proven herself to be a survivor.🌸

Now that she is safe and healing, Lydia is ready for her fresh start. She is a beautiful and unique 2-year-old brown ticked tabby with charming barring on her legs, tail, and head. Beyond her striking looks, she has a gentle, affectionate personality that shines through in everything she does. Due to her rough life, Lydia feels defensive around other cats, so a home where she could have a space of her own would be ideal.

Today, Lydia isn’t looking for anything complicated—just a safe, loving home where she can finally be someone’s special girl. She absolutely adores lap time, gentle pets, and being close to her purr-son. After everything she has endured, she deserves to spend the rest of her life being spoiled, cherished, and reminded every day that she is safe and deeply loved. ❤️🏡
