Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART) We are a no-kill, cage-free, home-like cat rescue, adoption center, and gift shop in Cambria, California.

Welcome to HART, the Homeless Animal Rescue Team in Cambria, CA. We are a no-kill, cage free animal rescue and adoption center located on the beautiful Central Coast of California. HART’s mission is to rescue domestic animals in need, strays as well as cats who have lost their homes due to death or illness, and place them into good permanent homes. We also aim to eliminate unwanted surplus animals from being born in our immediate area through our active spay/neuter programs. OUR MISSION
HART is a Volunteer Service Organization whose mission is to rescue domestic animals in need and place them into good, permanent homes, and to eliminate surplus animals from being born through active spay/neuter programs. HART is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (Federal ID 77-0018508). OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our philosophy is ensuring quality of life to all living creatures, both feral and domestic. OUR HISTORY
HART was founded in 1983 by a small core of volunteers who fostered animals in their own homes. Starting with Mika (a wayward cat in a family way), HART has placed thousands of homeless animals into permanent homes through adoption and foster programs. In 2000 HART acquired its own premises by renting a former veterinarian’s office, allowing us to expand our resources in the community. Our TNR (Trap/Neuter/Release) programs have prevented countless more homeless animals. Through partnerships with educators and other rescue groups HART has helped to develop an effective Humane Education program that has been shared with local schools and communities. In 2012 HART purchased its current location at 2638 Main Street. For over 30 years the overwhelming constant characteristic of HART has been a team of volunteers dedicated to the welfare of the animals, first and always.

Meet Isis & Onyx: Two beautiful black cats with BIG personalities! 🖤🐈‍⬛ Isis, 5, and Onyx, 6, came to HART after being rescued from a hoarding situation. Now these gorgeous girls are ready for a fresh start and the loving homes they deserve!

Both are social butterflies who absolutely LOVE being around people. They’re curious, “helpful” girls who enjoy being part of the action and can bring plenty of life, energy, and companionship to a home. Whether you’re looking for a pair of sweet faces to greet you, supervise your daily activities, or keep you company, these ladies are ready to be part of your world!

Both girls are FIV-positive, but that doesn’t prevent them from living long, happy lives. FIV-positive cats can even safely share a home with peaceful, cat-friendly FIV-negative cats. The virus is spread primarily through deep bite wounds, not everyday activities like cuddling, grooming, or sharing food and litter boxes, and it isn't contagious to humans or other animals. Isis and Onyx deserve a chance to shine in homes where they’ll receive the individual attention, affection, and care they’ve been waiting for.

Looking to add a little more love to your life? As part of HART’s October Adoption Specials, adult cat adoption fees are 25% OFF to help our wonderful grown-up kitties find the loving forever homes they deserve. Could Isis, Onyx, or maybe both be the missing piece of your family? 🖤

🐾❤️ Today is National Feral Cat Day, and 10 lives are counting on us.

10 cats and kittens were facing euthanasia. Now, they have a chance at a new beginning in Cambria—but they need a place to call home.

HART is raising $1,000 to provide the enclosures, feeding stations, and food needed for their new outdoor colony.

They may never curl up on someone’s couch, but they still deserve care, full bellies, and a chance to live their lives in peace.

Will you help us give them that chance? Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to making their new beginning possible. ❤️
