Jack-O-Lantern spent some time with us recovering after being treated for a urinary blockage. 🧡🐱

Urinary blockages in cats are a very serious medical emergency, especially in male cats. A blockage prevents them from being able to urinate, which can quickly become life-threatening if left untreated. Signs to watch for include:
🚩 Straining in the litter box
🚩 Frequent trips to the litter box
🚩 Crying while trying to urinate
🚩 Vomiting
🚩 Hiding or acting lethargic
🚩 Urinating outside the litter box

If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to seek veterinary care immediately. Early treatment can save lives!

Dr. Hughston and Logan working together during a gastropexy surgery! 🩺🐾

A gastropexy is a preventative procedure that helps reduce the risk of Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), also known as bloat. Bloat is a life-threatening condition where the stomach fills with gas and can twist on itself, cutting off blood flow and requiring emergency surgery.

During a gastropexy, the stomach is surgically attached to the body wall to help prevent twisting. This procedure is commonly recommended for large and deep-chested breeds and is often performed at the same time as a spay or neuter.

These sweet pups always bring so much fun and happiness to the clinic. From tiny puppy visits to watching their personalities grow bigger every time they come in, they have quickly become favorites around here!

Today we celebrate the amazing rescue dogs who have found their forever homes — and the people who opened their hearts to them. Rescue pets come in all ages, sizes, and personalities, but they all share one thing: an incredible ability to love. 🐾

Whether they were adopted from a shelter, taken in as a stray, or rescued through a local organization, these dogs deserve to be celebrated every day.

🪰 Black fly season is here! Unfortunately, our dogs’ bellies seem to be a favorite target for these pesky bugs.

If you notice a red circular sore like the one pictured below, it is very likely a black fly bite. Many people mistake these spots for the “target” lesion associated with tick bites in humans.

While black fly bites can look alarming and may be locally irritating, they typically heal on their own within about 48 hours. Of course, if the area worsens, seems painful, or your pet is excessively licking or uncomfortable, give us a call! 🐾💚

Jandney and Dr. Nelson had a great time visiting Leroy Elementary for Career Day with their adorable helper, Blitz! 🐾📚

They loved talking with the students about what it’s like to work in veterinary medicine and teaching them about caring for animals. From being a veterinarian to working as a vet tech, we hope we inspired some future animal lovers today! 🩺🐶💙
