🐾 With the age of the internet i’m sure you’ve heard groomers say that shaving double coats is bad but most tend to never tell you the reasons. The 2 main issues we have with shaving double coated breeds is:

It disrupts your dogs natural temperature regulation; Double coated breeds have 2 layers of coat (topcoat and undercoat) that are designed to protect them from the elements. These coats keep them cool in the summertime and warm in the winter. The other reason would be that it can cause permanent coat damage if taken too short. When the guard hairs of the undercoat get shaved they tend to grow in wonky or dont even grow in at all! 😬

Now! there are exceptions to these rules. Old age, medical reasons or severe matting are very few reasons we would opt to shave your double coated breed. This sweet boy is 10 years old and has been getting compacted in his rear end, so we opted to shave. When our dogs get older, we tend to stop looking at the vanity and start looking at just how much they can handle. If this boy was only a couple years old i most definitely wouldn’t have shaved him, but with his age, he can’t stand for long periods and it would be unfair to him to force him through getting his compaction out. 🫶

Comfort is my top priority with every dog that walks through my doors 💖 Changing the routine to keep a dog comfortable is ok!

Mr. Boone wants to remind everyone that our short coated friends should be groomed just as often as our long coated ones! 🩶✨ This boy gets weekly baths and he still has a pile of hair that ends up on the floor 😂 better this than all over the house!

It’s summertime so hairs started to fly! 🤭 Book before that hair starts piling up!

Brushing and combing your pup at home is one of the most important things you can do for your groomer 💕 whys that you ask? well let me tell you the reasons!

1. It prevents painful mats and tangles:
Mats (especially in long-haired breeds) can form quickly and pull tightly on your dog’s skin, causing pain, irritation, and even infections. Severe mats have the capability of pulling hair out of the skin and even ripping the animals skin if it’s tight enough. Brushing helps prevent mats before they start! 😎

2. Reduces shedding
Routine brushing helps remove loose fur and reduces the amount of hair left on your furniture, clothes, and floors. Which also can help with any allergies to your pup! 🤩

3. Early detection of health issues
While brushing, you’re more likely to notice things like lumps, bumps, parasites (like fleas or ticks), dry patches, or cuts that might otherwise go unnoticed. Seeing these ahead of time may just save your dogs life 😱

4. Makes longer hair styles possible
Brushing daily (or every-other) can allow your groomer to do those longer hair styles that you may like. If mats have formed from little to no brushing your groomer is (most times) forced to cut your dog’s hair shorter than you may like. We love being able to keep your dogs in longer hairstyles (if you so please) but they must be kept up with at home so we can keep the hair longer 💖

Brushing and combing just a few times a week (or daily for longer-haired breeds) makes a big difference in your dog’s comfort and well-being. It’s a simple habit with powerful benefits! We understand brushing your dog everyday may not be possible for everyone and thats ok! More frequent grooming appointments can help with keeping the mats at bay if you aren’t able to brush all the time. ✨🩶

Mr. Otto very broodingly came to get his haircut today 🩶🤭 Dont let that mad face sway you, this sweet boy gives kisses (or at least his version of kisses) the whole way through! Although, his personal opinions on his baths tend to make him mean mug me for the remainder of his appointment 😂💕

Meet Duckie 💕 our shop cat in training! she is a very loving little kitten and fingers crossed she stays that way 🤞🩶 She’ll be our happy little greeter once shes old enough

Dino was *supposed* to have blue flames going up his legs but the vision didn’t translate perfectly! 💕 luckily hair grows back and can be shaved off 😂practice makes perfect and now we know for next time! 🤭🩶 This good boy rocks all the crazy designs we give him and luckily this one is no different!
