The Homestead in mid-summer reviews how each of the 6 farmers market we do, are happening, the publicity, and customer input, and general collaboration. It have become apparent with a hospital policy restriction concerning 1/3 of my items which are 50% of my sales, attending as a vendor at the UVM Medical Center Farmers Market, including the lack of social media and publicity to the general population (where staff & patients are the ones present), feels too much work and not the ability to showcase my inventory. We will for the remaining Summer (until October) be at the Monday Smugglers Notch, Wednesday Essex, Thursday Vergennes, Saturday Montgomery, & Sunday Winooski Markets and online at greenacreshomestead.com

August 1, the midpoint of summer in the northern hemisphere, the highpoint of the harvest season of greatest bounty, the time when people are most out in public, in nature, on the land & water, when wildlife abounds, all we meet in person. A time to reflect what we have grown, given, shared, and received. This week the Homestead will be at 6 farmers markets, crossing paths with up to 2000 people as they visit and explore their markets & with other vendors. We demonstrate by our presence: quality, diligence, attention, & understanding. It's a reminder of why we are here.

For the priority and survival of the family farm in Vermont.

The Vermont Supreme Court ruled on May 30, 2025, that farming is not exempt from all municipal regulation. Instead, the court interpreted the “ag exemption” in 24 V.S.A. § 4413(d)(1)(A) [the Municipal Zoning Statute] as a reference only to the policies and standards intended to reduce agricultural water pollution. The court concluded that municipalities may regulate all aspects of farming that do not relate to water quality, thereby setting a new precedent in stark contrast to the previous, statewide understanding that farming is exempt from municipal zoning regulations.

Save the date! On the evening of Sunday, October 19th from 4-7pm, we invite all Rural Vermont members, friends, supporters, and allies to join us for our 40th anniversary party! We’re planning a special gathering at the Old Labor Hall in Barre where we’ll share stories, honor Rural Vermont leaders, enjoy a hearty meal, make-and-take art, and lots more.
