We had a Great Spring Party and Sing-Along!
Not only were we celebrating Spring, but also the fact that our residents felt loved and cared for by BPP owner Ron and Paula. In appreciation of this, a ‘quilt of love’ had been made for them and a poem recited in their honor. Our Sing-Along songs resumed complete with bird calls during the appropriate songs. The games at ‘half-time’ kept everyone engaged and busy. One photo shows everyone working on their ‘Spring Haiku’. To top it off, it was Ron’s birthday! So much to celebrate!

On March 20th, BPP was honored at the annual “Best of Burien” awards dinner as the “Business That Makes a Difference in Boulevard Park”. We have enjoyed our continual collaboration with the city of Burien and are honored to be recognized for our efforts in creating a safe, friendly, and community-oriented environment for all of our residents.

These two sisters, Lou Hill and Gin Opel, who are long-term residents at BPP, shared their life stories to a rapt audience at the monthly “Life Story Hour”. Born on a farm in Kansas, the Depression and consecutive ‘Dust Bowl’, drove the family to Washington State. But so many interesting details made their presentation so entertaining! Thank you, Lou, and Gin!

What a celebration we had of Viola Steinman’s life!
Our multipurpose room was filled to capacity with residents, family and friends hearing and sharing stories about this unique, hard-working lady who had given 30 years of her life serving here at Boulevard. Purple flowers were abundant as the favorite color of this dedicated gardener. It was wonderful to have this time to honor her together.

Pamela Malcolm from Edward Jones Investment led an informative seminar on “How to Outsmart Scammers” which was well attended. She had lots of interaction with her audience as questions were raised and personal examples shared. Everyone is better armed and aware to avoid being caught by scammers in the future.

With February comes our Black History Celebration.
Our residents’ committee of Juanita, Phyllis, Nene, Sharon, Deborah and David planned the event and Sharon and the BPP Singers led the sing-along of uplifting spirituals. Interesting and informative presentations were made by Juanita, David and Deborah. To close the celebration, we enjoyed some tarts and fresh fruit! A big thank you to our committee!

The gloomy, cold weather didn’t inhibit us from having a happy party! Our Valentine’s celebration included a love song “Sing-Along” led by the BPP Singing Group and we played games. With the “Who am I” game our brave volunteers (with hats on) had to guess which famous TV couples they were, by asking questions that could only be answered by “yes” or ”no” by the audience. We played “Charades” that we had to guess love songs being mimed, then answered some Valentines riddles. After the final song, “Show a Little Kindness” all were challenged to speak with someone that they didn’t know well. Yes, it was a “HAPPY Valentine’s Day”!

Today we were busy making miniature Christmas arrangements in jars! Each arrangement was unique fueled by the residents’ interest. It was satisfying to create something yourself.
Thank you, Paula!

BPP's Thanksgiving Celebration! After having been without power for 17 hours the day before following a severe windstorm, we had more reasons than usual to be joyous and thankful. The caters functioned so efficiently, the staff worked as a gracious team, the pianist, Emmy Purainer, supplied background music, and the food was delicious and bountiful. Our Craft/Sewing group held a post-Bazaar sale that helped us find Christmas gifts. Many thanks to Ron and Paula and the Steinman family for this happy, yearly event!
