Rex has been loving life with his foster. Here is what she has to say about him.
Rex is an incredibly sweet, gentle, affectionate dog who seems very grateful to be out of the shelter. He was initially a little timid meeting new people but warmed up within a minute and quickly sought attention. He has been very low-maintenance and settles well after exercise.
House Manners - Had a couple potty accidents on his first day while adjusting. No accidents after day one with regular trips outside. No destructive behavior other than quickly destroying stuffed toys. Loves long-lasting chews (especially marrow bones and bully sticks).
Handling - No food aggression observed. Comfortable being petted while eating and having his food bowl or chews handled. Not picky and eats kibble. Can be mouthy during play but has shown no true biting or aggression.
Jumps up when excited but responds well to a firm “no” and knows “sit.” Jumping is definitely his biggest challenge to work on.
Activity - Loves being outdoors and is happy entertaining himself by running and exploring the yard. Settles nicely indoors after getting exercise.
Walking & Other Dogs - Walks well on leash after about 5-10 of some pulling and excitement. When seeing other dogs, he may bark and pull toward them out of excitement, but I did not observe aggressive body language. He appeared eager to greet or investigate. Have not yet introduced him to my resident dogs. But will give information if we do. Recall is not reliable. He should always be in a securely fenced area or on leash.
Overall, Rex was a wonderful foster. He adapted quickly, formed bonds with people, and was easy to care for. I think he’ll thrive in a home that provides regular exercise, secure outdoor time, and continued positive reinforcement for greeting manners.
