⚠️ RABIES ALERT — OAK LAWN

A bat found inside an apartment building in the 9800 block of South Pulaski Road in Oak Lawn has tested positive for rabies. This is the 6th rabies-positive bat identified in Cook County this year.

This is an important reminder that rabies is present in our local wildlife population — and vaccination is the best protection for our pets.

🐾 Please check your pet’s rabies vaccination status.

Dogs, cats and ferrets should be kept current on their rabies vaccinations. Even indoor pets can be exposed if a bat enters the home.

🦇 If you find a bat in your home:

- Do not touch it with bare hands.
- Keep people and pets away from it.
- Do not release or dispose of the bat if there is any possibility that a person or pet had contact with it. The bat may need to be tested for rabies.
- Contact your veterinarian and local animal-control/public-health authorities promptly for guidance.

If your pet has had contact with a bat or other potentially rabid wildlife, contact a veterinarian immediately, even if your pet is currently vaccinated.

🍀 UPDATE ON CHICAGO’S LUCKIEST KITTENS 🍀

Mona and Honey have now been reunited with their sibling, Brandy, who was also rescued from the Chicago sanitation truck. We estimate all three kittens were born around St. Patrick’s Day.

Brandy was rescued on May 13th and arrived covered in motor oil, just like her sisters. After a much-needed bath and veterinary checkup, she is now safe, clean, and thriving alongside Mona and Honey.

All three kittens are doing wonderfully and are ready to find their loving fur-ever homes. ❤️

🍀 CHICAGO’S LUCKIEST KITTENS 🍀

Meet Mona & Honey 🐾

Born around St. Patrick’s Day, these lucky little sisters survived inside the engine compartment of a City of Chicago sanitation truck before being rescued just in time.

Covered in grease and grime, they were brought to safety without even as much as a scratch by the amazing City workers. Following their rescue, they were taken in for a much-needed bath and veterinary checkup.

Now clean, healthy, and thriving, Mona and Honey are timid but sweet little girls who are learning that people can be kind. At approximately 7–8 weeks old, they are playful, curious, and looking for loving forever indoor homes.
