What Else We Do: We seek to place pets in forever homes where they will be part of the family. We spay or neuter every dog or cat in our shelter.

We provide a safe, loving refuge for homeless and surrendered dogs and cats, powered by volunteers and donations. Where possible, we treat them for parasites, injuries, and illnesses. We microchip them. We educate adopters about how to be responsible pet owners. In addition to caring for animals needs, much of the construction, repairs and grounds maintenance is also a job for our volunteers, as well as performing all the tasks of running a shelter such as answering the phone and keeping records. Volunteering at BAHS is a great character-building experience.

Scotty just wants his person.

This sweet 9-year-old Retriever mix is all about the humans. He's not particularly interested in other dogs or cats. Give him a little human attention, and that's where you'll find his happy place.

After coming to us from ACS, he fought two tick-borne diseases. He's currently in foster care, getting the care he needs, and feeling so much better!

He's a people-loving, sweet-natured boy who deserves to be appreciated for the wonderful dog he is.

We'd love to see this next chapter bring him more comfort, more companionship, and all the human affection he can handle.

Jitterbug’s recipe for reaching the top: strong front legs, one handy bucket, and a little ingenuity!

As a neuro FIP survivor, Jitterbug’s back legs don’t work quite as well as they should. But this clever kitty has figured out a way up—with a bucket as the perfect stepping stone!

A little extra planning, a little upper body strength, and up we go.

Sometimes the sweetest victories come one bucket at a time.

A little fall fun, a lot of friendly faces, and a wonderful chance to connect with our community!

Yesterday, Bulverde Area Humane Society joined the Falcon Fall Festival Trunk or Treat at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde.

We loved meeting so many visitors, introducing some of our furry friends, and spreading the word about our shelter!

This event was all about making connections and helping neighbors discover who we are and how they can get involved.

Several visitors even told us they planned to stop by the shelter—just the kind of connection we hoped to make!

A big thank-you to Mike, Tammy, Penny, and all the staff and volunteers who helped make this outreach event a success.

Thank you also to the school and PTSA for bringing the community together, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello!

Born in 08/11/26, tho adorable boy arrived with his siblings as part of our “Chewing Gum Crew.” He’s now enjoying our kitten cottage, where every corner holds something new to explore. How has a dog this handsome, sweet, and easy to be around been waiting two months for a home?

We're going to need someone to explain this one to us.

Max has been at BAHS for two months, and we're genuinely shocked that this handsome boy hasn't been scooped up yet.

He's precious. He's sweet. He's easy to be around.

Max is a Beagle/Terrier mix, about 52 pounds, and ready to trade shelter life for a spot in someone's home. He came to us as a stray, and now we're hoping the right person will see what we see.
