What another amazing opportunity for our riders at another wonderful show! Congratulations to our two precious riders at the Gold Stirrup Show at the Austin Rodeo this past weekend!

Both of you impact so many lives around you with your kindness and joy that radiates. Not only did your accomplishments with THREE Golden Stirrup buckles (first place!), but your constant encouragement and team mindset towards each other was an incredible illustration of your intentions for the show- to have fun, grow in your skills and enjoy time with others who care about you. Your sportsmanship extended to so many other contestants at the show too!

Thank you to the Gold Stirrup management and community, as well, for the honor of the Top Club Award for 2025! What an honor it is!

Please welcome Honey to the Hope Herd! 🍯

She is a 3-year-old Buckskin Quarter Horse mare that we will be training to become an invaluable partner in our vision at Hope Reins!

A therapy horse’s job is not easy, as they must be able to handle many different environments and riders, as well as understand the cues that a rider and/or a horse handler communicate, while at the same time learning to tune out the sidewalkers walking beside them. At Hope Reins, they must also have the strength and athleticism to perform at various levels of showmanship. But they must also have the personality gentle enough to interact with riders of various needs.

With Honey’s sweet disposition, it seems like she will fit this description well! We are excited to bring sweet Honey along in our special program.

We are SO PROUD of our three amazing riders at Houston’s Stock Show and Rodeo Top Hands Show!

What a special opportunity for these riders to continue to grow in their skills as horsemen and women, teammates, and individually to overcome challenges unique to each of them.

From 1st places in showmanship and trail to second and third places in showmanship, barrels, and trail, our riders accomplished so much on a performance level this show.

More than that, however, they learned new skills, overcame fears and physical challenges, expanded their horizons in the horse world, learned valuable communication, and found so much joy in their accomplishments.

This is the goal at a Hope Reins in Texas show: we may win or we may lose, but we always learn!

ALSO, thank you to Top Hands Houston for the generous award and honor bestowed on us for “Reserve Top Club 2025”! What a surprise, joy and memory for years to come!

“Autumn: The season that teaches us that change can be beautiful.”

As we all enjoy the changing of the weather from hot Texas heat to crisp Fall days, may we each reflect on the changes we have seen in our lives this past year.

We are grateful in this season, as well as the ones that have been and the ones to come, for the changes each of you want to see for the better in your lives and for allowing Hope Reins to come alongside to help make them happen!

Many people believe therapy horses are simple and have simple jobs because they seemingly just giving pony rides to individuals with special needs. From outward appearances, this is true. However, the job of a therapy horse is not simple at all.

In order for our horses to assist in the accomplishment of therapy and riding goals, they must have specialized training that focuses on performance and athleticism. Our horses must be able to complete their jobs in many different environments with many different distractions; they must be able to tune out the communication from the sidewalkers on either side of them and must focus on the horse handlers leading them, while at times listening to the rider’s cues and at other times not. Our horses must be able to have the stamina and the strength to carry individuals who may not have the strength in their muscles and core to carry themselves. They must be sensitive to the cues of a rider or handler, while not reacting instinctively to noises and inputs that would normally frighten a horse.

At Hope Reins, we work hard to make our horses versatile, strong, and useful to our vision. One way we do this is by showing our horses in order to challenge them and ourselves. We are proud of how these boys did at their most recent show!
