How long have you been part of the team?
Almost a year!

Do you have any pets?
I have three dogs: Ludo and English bulldog who is super lazy but loves snuggles. Ziggy, another English bulldog who is attached to my mom’s hip—we like to call him her shadow- and Willie, a hound mix who’s super energetic and loves to play!

What’s your favorite product in the store and why?
The Anti-Itch Spray works wonders on all three of my dogs, but especially the bulldogs!

What’s your favorite thing about working at Shaggy Dog Market?
The other staff! They’re super nice—we bring each other snacks all the time and love chatting about our furry friends.

What’s a fun fact about you that customers might not know?
I’m a junior in high school, and I’m currently part of the JHS culinary program!

If you could be any dog or cat breed, which one would you be and why?
I would be a Greyhound because in real life I’m pretty short, and I would love the extra height! Haha.

What’s the most heartwarming pet story you’ve experienced at the store?
A very skinny rescue dog came in a few months ago after just being saved from a shelter. It had lost all its hair from not getting the nutrition it needed. We set the owner up with plenty of treats, advice, and support. A few months later, she came back with the same dog looking better than ever! The whole experience made me appreciate my job and the people I help just a bit more.

What’s something special about Shaggy Dog Market that big stores don’t have?
Craig, our owner, could and would talk to customers for hours to make sure they are satisfied. He makes sure that everything you are doing is perfectly safe for your animals.

How long have you been part of the team?
About 6 months!

Do you have any pets?
Yes! I have a border collie named Sabine. She’s incredibly smart and always bursting with energy—she definitely keeps me on my toes!

What’s your favorite product in the store?
There are too many great ones to count, but I’d have to say Farmina kibble and Fromm meatballs are at the top of my list!

What’s your favorite thing about working at Shaggy Dog Market?
The people I work with! Everyone here is so helpful, respectful, and incredibly patient as they teach me the ropes. It’s such a positive environment to be part of.

What’s a fun fact customers might not know about you?
I absolutely love hearing about everyone’s fur babies! It makes my day when customers share stories about their pets.

What’s the most heartwarming pet story you’ve experienced at the store?
One day, a neighborhood dog named Tilly spotted me from a distance and couldn’t wait to come say hi. She pulled her owner all the way over, tail wagging like crazy—and she got so excited she even went wee wee on the floor! It was the sweetest, most genuine welcome.

Why do you think shopping small is important?
It’s all about creating community. Supporting a neighborhood store lets you get to know the people around you, and it just feels more personal.

🐾 Get to Know the Pack: Meet Claire!

Do you have any pets?
Yes! I have two dogs, Lola and Molly.
Lola is an 11-year-old chihuahua/heeler mix who I grew up with and brought with me to college—she’s truly the love of my life. Molly is a 2-year-old chihuahua mix with a never-ending supply of energy and a serious love for singing! Both of them love learning new tricks and playing around with agility equipment when they get the chance.

What’s your favorite product in the store?
I’m a huge fan of A Pup Above! It’s been a game changer for Lola. Since switching her to it, she’s more active and excited about meals, and it’s really gentle on her sensitive stomach. Plus, I love knowing exactly what’s going into her food.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Shaggy Dog Market?
I love all the pet conversations I get to have with our customers—and the constant stream of hilarious and adorable dog pictures I get to see!

What’s a fun fact customers might not know about you?
I used to do competitive show jumping growing up and had two horses.

What’s the most heartwarming pet story you’ve experienced at the store?
My first summer working here, I fostered a dog named James Dean who had lymphoma. I brought him to work with me all the time, and he got totally spoiled with treats, toys, and love. After he passed, I was helping a customer one day and found out she had also fostered him through the San Marcos shelter before I did. It was such a special full-circle moment and a reminder of how amazing this community is.

Why do you think shopping small is important?
Because it allows you to support your community directly, instead of putting money into big corporations.

What makes Shaggy Dog Market different from other stores?
Everything we carry meets our standards—we don’t stock rawhides or unhealthy foods like you’ll find in bigger stores. You can trust that anything you buy here is something we’d give to our own pets.

How long have you been part of the team?
Almost two years!

Do you have any pets?
Yes—five! I have three dogs and two cats:
🐶 Tessa (Rhodesian Ridgeback/Lab mix) – the sweetest, most nervous little angel.
🐶 Morty (Poodle/Dachshund mix) – smart, loyal, and always ready to play.
🐶 Loki (Longhaired Dachshund) – the ultimate cuddle bug who loves his people.
🐱 Asher – my big, talkative cat who only plays with balled-up receipts.
🐱 Morgan – my little gorgeous girl who loves to cuddle and won’t stop licking once she starts!

What’s your favorite product in the store?
The PlaqueOff line! It’s the easiest and most effective way to keep my pets’ teeth healthy, and they all love it.

What’s the best part about working at Shaggy Dog Market?
The community we’ve built—not just with our customers in Kyle and Buda, but with each other, too!

What’s a fun fact customers might not know about you?
I love dogs and cats, but I also have a passion for dance! I’m actually a dance instructor.

What’s your favorite local spot to visit with your pets?
Sunday morning walks at Purgatory Natural Area in San Marcos are our favorite tradition!

If you could be any dog or cat breed, what would you be?
🐶 A Papillon—they’re fun, intelligent, and those butterfly ears are too cute!
🐱 A Maine Coon—beautiful, smart, and admired by everyone.

What’s the most heartwarming pet moment you’ve seen in the store?
Watching shelter dogs come in for a doggy-day-out! They’re always so happy to soak up the love, attention, and of course, the treats.

🐾 Behind the Counter: Meet Blakely!

How long have you been part of the team?
Since June 2023!

Do you have any pets?
I have two tabby kitties, Spencer Reid (1) and Josie (2). They are the sweetest (and craziest) little duo, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything! I also have a crested gecko named Baby, who is 3 years old.

What’s your favorite product in the store?
Definitely the Fussie Cat Goat Milk line! I’ve yet to meet a cat who doesn’t love it.

What’s the best part about working at Shaggy Dog Market?
Seeing dogs all day! I might even sneak them a treat or two. 😉

What’s a fun fact customers might not know about you?
I leash-trained my cats! You might even spot me walking around the store with them.

-Yes! I have two cats, Ellio and Iris. They both love people and are super talkative—we’re constantly having full-on conversations. Ellio’s favorite thing is being held like a baby, so he’s always crying at my feet to be picked up. Oh, and I also have a hamster named Potato. He’s my favorite little guy!

What’s your favorite product in the store?
-There are so many I love, but if I had to pick one, it would be Farmina. The quality is amazing, and I haven’t met a pet that doesn’t love it (including my own).

What’s the best part about working at Shaggy Dog Market?
-Definitely the relationships I’ve built with our customers—and getting to see dogs all day, every day!
